“...according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord...”
Ephesians 3 v 11
We can approach our Father
Daily with prayerful confidence.
It is in Christ Jesus we experience
Expectation
Dedication
Meditation
Remuneration
Admiration
And contemplation, all sourced in Jesus’ holiness.
“May my meditation be sweet to Him; I will be glad in the LORD.”
Psalm 104 v 34
Adoration, the climax of prayer’ offering,
As with all the aspects and prospects of prayer,
They are all founded, grounded
In our friendship with Jesus, seeking His holiness.
Jesus is our prayer’s worship.
In worship is formed, emboldened, strengthened
Our veneration, an offering with merit.
Because we turn to Jesus, in whom we inherit faith.
Our access to the throne room of grace is in Jesus,
“...in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.”
Ephesians 3 v 12
“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named...”
Ephesians 3 v 14, 15
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,” (Ephesians 1 v 3) and on earth as together with Jesus we work towards the promise not only of a place in heaven, but of God’s kingdom extending here on earth through the love the Lord Jesus’ Spirit gives birth to. “The height of devotion is reached when reverence and contemplation produce passionate worship, which in turn breaks forth in thanksgiving and praise in word and song.” (R. Kent Hughes) Lord, I
cannot sing very tunefully, but ever I would let my words praise You.
Words of worship can be, should be, must be offered daily through Your living Word, active and effective amongst us dearest Father, because of the promise of the Holy Spirit. Let us then, ever call upon the Spirit to shape our life through prayer. “Holy Spirit soul of my soul I adore Thee; enlighten, guide, strengthen and console me; tell me what I ought to
do and command me to do it,”(Cardinal Mercier) and please strengthen me to do it. May all my decisions and actions be based on prayer. Thank You for any progress I have made, but I ask You to take me on further in faith, richly sourced by prayer.
I ask to make more progress in turning to Jesus. Holy Spirit Lord, each day “I promise to be submissive in everything that Thou shall ask of me,” (Cardinal Mercier) yet I fail. I am truly sorry and desire to do better. I desire “To accept all that Thou permittest to happen to me”(Cont) without complaint. “Only show me what is Thy will,” (Cont) and enable me please to abide by this. Strengthen my faith’s resolve through prayer, the veneration of devotion. Please deepen and embolden my
friendship with Jesus in order to honour our Father.
“We need to model our lives on the life of Jesus, so as to share His sentiments and His thoughts.” (Pope Francis) Holy Spirit, Lord, please continue to help me with this, my making more effort based on prayer. “For God... calls us... in holiness. Therefore (s)he who rejects Him does not reject man, but God who has also given us His Holy Spirit.” (1 Thessalonians 4 v 7, 8) Please help us to practise the commands and demands of our faith, living for the love, honour and service of our Father, my thoughts and actions filtered through the love of Jesus. Please help me to live productively in the service of God, my work ever flowing out of my faith, because I am always praying. Adoration must be the climax of prayer’s offering, as I seek to follow Jesus as Lord, as the living Word of God, my Teacher Saviour Restorer.
Holy Spirit, Lord, I would work and pray to see others come to the joy of faith. “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify us completely; and may my whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ,” (based on 1 Thessalonians 5 v 23) not some vague in the future arrival, but in the dynamics of today, each and every day, that we yield to the will of God, so clearly shown in the life and love of Jesus. May we pray and work to be more like Jesus.
Peace, hope and joy are all the gifts of turning to Jesus. He is our spiritual prosperity as we move forwards in faith. Thank You for the access to the throne room of grace. “For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the
end.” (Hebrews 3 v 14) Lord, send us Your very own Spirit of holiness to direct our attention towards Jesus. All that is holy, all that is worthy is sourced and discovered in Jesus, in seeking to share in His holiness, in striving. Help us please to persevere.
“In those days when you pray, I will listen,” (Jeremiah 29 v 12 NLT) You say, dearest Father. Cause us to pray. Teach us to pray. Show us what to pray about. Do not let us think of prayer as something mysterious, beyond our reach, but as an open, frank, conversation with You. Thank You for Your promise which says “If you look for Me in earnest, you will find Me when you seek Me.” (v 13) There is no better way than through Jesus, for there is no other way than through Jesus. Jesus is our prayer’s worship, our life source, our faith’s keystone, the bedrock of our hope that Your kingdom will not only come amongst us, but will be extended as we share the love we have received.
Lord, holy Father, we each have to play our part in this. Please, please help us. Do not allow us to become disheartened when life seems to be running out of control. Instead, teach us pray more zealously, more fervently, more ardently. May we pray with expectation of Your answering. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for,” (Hebrews 11 v 1) asked for, prayed about, believed in, put before You for blessing. “The evidence of things not seen,” (Cont.) as yet in their complete fulfilment. Faith based on prayer is knowing that there will be completion one day.
Thank You that all blessings come about because somebody, somewhere prayed through Jesus. Jesus must be our focus as love He reveals, is patient and kind. Surely above all else the world needs to experience this? May we be helped to take Your love Father, that love as revealed in the works of Jesus, out to others. Thank You that Jesus living as One like us in all things but sin, is appointed for all the marvellous works of faith. May we pray to believe and receive of
this blessing.
“ ‘The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me’.” (Luke 4 v 18) Lord Jesus, anoint us by Your Spirit, that we too, active in Your service, are enabled “To preach the gospel to the poor’.” (Cont) So many in today’s world are downcast and disheartened, disillusioned and
despairing. But whatever the problem is, You are the answer. “ ‘He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted.” (Cont.
) Send us out in Your name, that together we “Proclaim liberty to the captives,” (Cont.)
whatever the form of the captivity. Lord Jesus, break the bondage of evil.
Come Lord Jesus, be the “ ‘Recovery of sight to the blind’,” (Luke 4 v 8) those who as yet cannot or will not see Your hand at work. Your blessed work has been passed on to us, Your body on earth, the church. May we together “ ‘Set at liberty those who are oppressed’.” (Cont) May we do this to show the reality of God’s love and mercy effected in You, through Your Spirit, “ ‘To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD’” (Cont.) that time of fulfilment long, long awaited.
“ ‘Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing’.” (Luke 4 v 21) May this still be the case, today, this day now in our age, as You call us to be Your followers, key workers in extending God’s kingdom of justice and peace, of loving kindness, of fairness and equality. For we are called to be servants of the Lord Jesus, key workers as well as co-workers. Lord, show us what to do, for who, when, where, and how. Remind us that You said that whatever we do to anybody, we do to You. Let this motivate us.
We have to find all solutions in Your loving presence, Lord Jesus. Yours is the healing, loving presence worked by Your Holy Spirit. How blessed we are. We thank and praise You for Your best results. “And this commandment we have from Him: that (s)he who loves God must
love his (or her) brother (and sister) also.” (1John 4 v 21) Please, please help us in the power of Your Spirit directing us, inspiring us, even commanding us, that our efforts are expedient.
“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him (or her) who is begotten of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.” (1 John 5 v 1, 2, 5) Please bless our efforts to do this. Illuminate our choices through the light of the gospel message of love, of peace, of hope, of joy. Let the light of God’s love shine on us, in us, through us as we devote to You Lord Jesus, the perfect reflection of our Father’s will and word. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them,” (Ephesians 2 v 10) seeking the treasures of faith.
Lord Jesus, be our strength of faith’s belief, our praise as You make a real difference in our daily life. Thank You for restoring us to the grace and favour of our Father. May we never block the blessed work of Your Holy Spirit. Draw us ever closer to You as Saviour, our Companion for the journey of life. Be the power of holy love shown in and amongst us. Repair our faults and failings that we make progress in all the ways of holiness. May we proclaim Your name above all names. Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we honour and praise our Father through You as our Saviour Redeemer Brother, full of the power of holy love.
We ask for Your Spirit of revelation to call us to be healed, helped, encouraged, strengthened, prospered in Your name of love. You are our Saviour Lord, the Lord of love and life. You are the Master Healer, Consoler, Restorer. All things are put right in You through You, by Your love gifted to us. I praise the †. Just as You raised Lazarus from the dead, raise us up in the expectation of seeing faith’s promises fulfilled as we work with You, for You, through You, blessed, inspired, guarded, guided by Your very own Spirit.
Let us then worship in awed gratitude for all the work of the Trinity. Let all our vision and decision be based on You, Lord Jesus. You are our faith and prayer’s effectiveness that we offer adoration to our Father. May this happen each day as we work and pray in Your name. In You we offer our Father our veneration and say with true hope, calling up the blessings, “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven’.” (Matthew 6 v 9, 10) We ask this in the faith giving, prayer offering name of Jesus. He is our prayer’s worship. We praise and thank You. Amen.
