SUE O'DONNELL. 11.04.21
It is April with sunny weather so fine,
It has to be tulip time!
Little else except perhaps blossom,
Makes the spring utterly sublime.
And if you can at all, the two combine,
With tulips and blossom, your heart may incline
To become a keen gardener!
Bringing your efforts in line with those
Who already are skilful in garden creativity.
For beauty can happen just naturally,
Being at the hand of the Creator.
But with any garden design, skill and labour are necessary.
Tulip fever whereby they grow row upon row upon row spectacularly,
Is the result of back breaking labour in autumn bulb planting.
Not then requiring too much tending,
Not until April’s sun and showers mean weeding!
Adding to the beauty by a garden looking tidy.
No happiness can go amiss beneath trees,
Ladened with bountiful beauty of blossom.
Daintily, prettily enhancing the garden by gentle colour.
Add to this a swathe of tulips in their elegance,
With striking dominance of every colour except blue,
And the joys of spring to excite, reach new height.
The beauty of blossom meeting the eye is fleeting,
But tulips are so much longer lasting, a pleasure, a true treasure,
Add to which, both blossom and bulbs will flower annually together.
The Lord God Almighty always is an ecologist,
An economist, a designer and fine tuner.
If we do our bit by planting, weeding and tending,
Relying on the sun and showers to co-operate,
April is usually especially good at this, a month of weather variety,
Then, the harmony of our effort with nature,
Is a very well renowned garden feature of nature’s beauty maximised,
Both for our delight and that the Lord God be glorified.
Ever His name and fame to be extolled and magnified.
Lord, Father Creator, truly we magnify and glorify Your name and fame as a Master Gardener! Thank You for the beauty in April, which is utterly outstanding. Amen.
