September, what a colour mixture,

Some are softer, gentler, quieter,

As in the pinks and purples.

Whilst others are hotter, bolder, louder,

In strong orange, reds and yellows.

Our Lord God, the Creator of every flower,

And of course, of us, His chosen family,

Who know variety to be the spice of life.

So radically our Creator Father rings the changes,

Not only season by season,

But in the colour garden month by month.

September renowned for being a bridge,

Spanning the days from summer to autumn,

Does carry the speciality of many hotter colours.

You only need to picture the rich rudbeckia,

Effervescent echinacea and captivating kniphofia,

Or heavenly helenium to realise this truth.

But do not forget to enjoy the gentle Japanese anemone,

Sparkling sedum and marvellous Michaelmas daisy.

Or the amazing sapphire blue of agapanthus,

And you will surely agree variety is good,

Plenty to see of whatever takes your fancy.

The colour garden of September will be to remember,

The final fling of fabulous flowers

Before the more wind swept days of mid autumn,

When the days shorten, the flowers bid farewell,

Making ready way for a swell of another colour feature.

The autumn trees of October offer their own particular splendour,

Another anthem worthy of praise for the Creator.

But for now, for this seasonal bridge in time,

Count all flower colour as fine, because it is!

The Lord Jesus in love’s generosity

Has furnished us with the widest variety of floral feast.

And we have not even mentioned the heather clad hills,

Or the many mounds of cream, buff, tan, copper and golden grasses.

Sufficient perhaps to say September outclasses,

Ever so many a day in summer’s earlier growth.

No sloth this month, none at all!

Do the flowers, I wonder, hear autumn’s call

Thereby before autumn’s fall, decide to put on

A supreme show of radiance in the September colour garden?

It would seem so, You know, for no colour is forgotten.

The range is amazing in its momentous mixture,

A colour fixture of delight, a most beautiful

And fully bountiful, breathtaking sight,

All at the hand of our generously loving Father.

Let us offer all thanks and praise for rich colour,

Adding so much pleasure to daily life.

Creator Father, truly I thank and praise You for this glorious month of September, no colour forgotten in the amazing, momentous mixture which is such a pleasure for us to enjoy. How generous You are in Your love’s gifting. We rejoice! Amen.
