TRUE LOVE

Sue O’Donnell. 06.10.20

“Evening and morning and at noon I will pray and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice.” (Psalm 55 v 17)

An enduring love,

Steadfast and true,

Faithful to me,

Faithful to you.

The love of God

Is nothing but kindness,

Tenderness and the fullest compassion.

The Lord God pities us.

He saw the need

Of the † for forgiveness.

The spotless One

Was punished instead of us.

Forgiveness claims us.

What mercy is this!

We must trust ourselves

To the constancy of such love.

“We love Him because He first loved us.” (1 John 4 v 19)

We must be committed to Christ Jesus.

This is the true love

The Lord Jesus gifts us,

A love that never fails us.

Love guides us

Into the way of peace,

Through our friendship

With the Lord Jesus.

We share this

By turning to the Spirit.

The Spirit of holiness

Teaches us to love

In Jesus, with Him

And always through Him,

Sitting silently, praying.

It is holy love in us

Which is an enduring love,

If we keep praying through Jesus.

“May Christ be with us, before us, behind us, above us. Christ be over all! Amen.” (based on a prayer of St Patrick)

“Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5 v 17)

Come, Holy Spirit of love, as You adopt us into God’s family, proving we are beloved children, prized and cherished, let this love so empower us we will live only according to the law of love. This is to love like Jesus

did, unhesitatingly and full of mercy. Please make us wise in the ways of love, capable of fulfilling the command in both word and deed.

“May God grant us to speak as He would wish and conceive thoughts worthy of the gifts we have received” (based on Wisdom 7 v 15 TNJB) our gifting put to best use in Christian service. I ask this because faith without love shown practically is dead. But all thanks ever be, we have been brought fully alive to live a life of love according to the friendship the Lord Jesus graces us with.

We cannot love unless above all else, we desire, strive and pray for a better likeness to the image of the Lord Jesus. Holy Spirit Lord, please help us with this, that the more we resemble the Lord of Light, we will live

life in You, the Spirit of love, sharing the wisdom and truth our Saviour Brother makes clear to us.

Act in us, Holy Spirit, that we live to work for, broadcast, initiate, develop, extend and defend all You make holy as we live a life of holy love. Thank You that this gives rise to peace, hope and joy, making “Faith the

substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen,” (based on Hebrews 11 v 1) not yet intheir completion, but they will be!

As we devote time to prayer willingly, prepared to forfeit the time we could be spending elsewhere, especially when this is time we really, really want to spend doing something of our own choice, Help us please to reap a reward which is rich. This would be to rediscover anew the Lord Jesus, the living God in our midst, radiating His love to our needy world successfully.

May the outcome of our prayer be not only works of love accomplished charitably, much to the benefit of many, but also being a source by which others, touched by love’s kindness, come to faith in the Lord Jesus, because they have experienced the power of holy love making such a radical difference to life.

Let the love, we all show as we grow to know our Saviour Brother and call upon Your anointing Holy Spirit, be enduring and steadfast, uncompromised and true, committed and faithful, humble and self-effacing, a true reflection of the love the Lord God shows to us. Amen.
