“God is love.” (1 John 4 v 8)
What love is displayed.
The world’s greatest sacrifice ever
About to be made
By our Saviour, the Lord Jesus,
Whose love knows no measure, nor end.
But prior to His life’s ending,
He institutes an occasion
To make the reality of salvation,
Very real indeed to us, all who believe.
“The includes you who were once far away from God. You were His enemies separated from Him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now He has reconciled you to Himself through the death of Christ in His physical body.” (Colossians 1 v 21, 22 NLT)
Christ Jesus institutes the Holy Eucharist.
How momentous is this occasion.
At its institution we encounter Judas’ betrayal,
A reminder that we are all traitors,
All in desperate need of God’s mercy.
But also, we experience profound grace,
The Lord Jesus gifting us Himself.
His actual presence although hidden, real enough.
When sin abounds, grace prevails.
“God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant.” (Romans 5 v 20 NLT)
“God in all His fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through Him God reconciled everything to Himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.” (Colossians 1 v 19, 20 NLT)
Please pray to offer whatever it is the gift of the Holy Eucharist and today’s, ‘Good Friday’, events bring to mind. Amen.
