“That the genuineness of your faith ...may be found to praise, honour and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
1 Peter 1 v 7
Devotion is caring, sharing and delivering the gospel message. Devotion is people as one family
Gathering in God the Father’s name,
Growing in grace in Jesus the Son,
Going out, about empowered by the Spirit
To do the work of the Trinity. Devotion is our ability to prayerfully apply
All our yearning and learning focused
On the generous goodness of God seen in Jesus.
It is praying in the Spirit, seek guidance in Jesus.
“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
Galatians 5 v 25
We begin to sense the presence of God.
His closeness is the result of expectant
And complete determination to offer devotion, Looking at, listening to, learning from following Jesus.
It is in His Spirit we learn how to pursue holiness, Growing in the grace, gifted goodness of God,
Believing, receiving, achieving through Jesus. Devotion is the prayerful pursuit of His holiness,
The Spirit of Jesus alive, active in us.
“Prayer should be the key of the day and the lock of the night.”
George Herbert 1593-1633
For Lord God, Jesus is Your gift, and Your promise to us, fulfilled in His amazing birth, inspiring life, sacrificial death and awesome rising to new life. “ ‘Behold I lay in Zion a stone for foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; whoever believes will not act hastily’.” (Isaiah 28 v 16) The blueprint for our conduct is found in the inspiring life of Jesus. The hope of our eternity is seen in His life after death.
“ ‘Your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol will not stand...’”
Isaiah 28 v18
Growing in the grace of Your providence and promise – “If indeed we have tasted that You Lord are gracious” – then, we come to accept Jesus as Lord, Your Word of life, Your offer of new life, “ ...a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by You and precious," invaluably precious to us. (based on 1 Peter 2 v 3, v4)
Our life is dramatically altered by faith in Christ Jesus. Thank You for the promise which says
“You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to You, Lord God, through Christ Jesus.”
Based on 1 Peter 2 v5
All that we do that is worthwhile, honourable, notable, we do in the name of Jesus as Lord, our Master. What an amazing privilege! Thank You for the gift of faith, of prayer, of devotion.
“ ‘Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him, He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles,”
Isaiah 42 v 1, 2
to all the nations. “I have put My Spirit upon Him,” that this Holy Spirit in turn will be gifted to us, as long as we pray desiring to become followers of Jesus. “ ‘For I will pour water on him (and her) who is
thirsty, and floods on the dry ground. I will pour out My Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your offspring.”
Isaiah 44 v 3
Let us pray and invoke the promise.
Jesus is our wisdom, our guidance, our revelation, blessed by the work of the teaching, enlightening, illuminating Spirit. “ ‘I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me’.” ( John 5 v 30) Therefore our connection to Jesus, graced by His very own Spirit, must be our
closest connection and highest devotion to You, Lord God. Jesus is our life, our prayer, our witness, our worship, our service. Thank You that Jesus is Lord in us and over us. May we be His faithful followers, doing the work prescribed for us by His Spirit, Your co-equal Spirit, Father. May we never block the Spirit.
Loving Father, it is the life of Jesus which enables us to see You in all circumstances, even or maybe especially, in adversity. The promises fulfilled in Jesus teach us that You are a God, faithful, true and trustworthy. “O LORD, You are my God. I will exalt You, I will praise
Your name, for You have done wonderful things,” ( Isaiah 25 v 1) in Your Son, by Your Spirit, both gifted to us to make a real difference. “Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth...You have
been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his (or her) distress, a refuge v 4 from the storm.” You are so generous in Your love for us, You allowed the † for our redemption, escape from all that is evil. I praise the mercy of forgiveness and our fresh start in Jesus.
“All things were created through Him and for Him.”
Colossians 1 v 16
May we devote to Jesus as Lord, Jesus as Your living Word, dearest Father. “ ‘The kingdom of God is within you,” (Luke 17 v21) as a promise. May we work towards this with devotion, applying the godly principles, strengthened by the Spirit of love, of life as our heavenly guidance, direction and desire for devotion. “ ‘You are the salt of the earth...You are the light of the world... Let your light so shine before men,
v 16 that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven’.”
Matthew 5 v 13, 14, v16
Lord, I am sorry for my failures when I distinguish this light. I ask to be filled with Your Spirit, Lord Jesus, that I live through You to honour and praise our Father to the best of my ability, enabled to serve as You would have me to serve. I would fulfil the promise which says “You have an anointing from the Holy One...” (1 John 2 v 20) I would do this by better reflecting Your love and Your life within me. For this I need the continuous input of Your Holy Spirit’s wisdom, in all the daily needs to be met, tasks to be done. How challenging this can be. May I pray sufficiently to ever be growing in the grace offered at Your † of salvation. Lord Jesus, be King over all my decisions and actions. If I operate independently, I will fail.
I seek the full potential of faith and prayer applied to everyday living with devotion. “Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land” (Psalm 37 v 3
) surely this must be the land of faith based on prayer, to, through, together with You, Lord Jesus – “And feed on His faithfulness.” Please enable me to do this at all times, no exceptions. My inner self has to be guided by Your Spirit, so that the ways of the world do not overtake me, do not pull me away.
“Wait on the LORD, and keep His way...” I ask to be strengthened in my pursuit of all Your ways of holiness, Restorer Lord. Be ever my strength and my shield, my trust and my hope, my devotion and deliverance. “May I experience Your love, Lord Christ, though it is too great
to understand fully. Then I will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
based on Ephesians 3 v 19 NLT
I know that “Blessed is the (wo)man...whose delight is in the law of the LORD and in His law (s)he meditates day and night,” (Psalm 1 v 1, 2
) for thereby we become active in Your service. I ask for this high honour that my devotion is faith in action, ever growing in the grace I have been so blessed to receive. I thank and praise You for all You have done with me, for me, and anything done through me so far. I ask to move on in Your service, ever devoted to our Father’s call, together with You, Lord Jesus, blessed and guided by Your very own Spirit. May I never deflect from my devotion, for devotion in faith must be my prime motivation. Amen.
