Do you think about the glory of grey?
What do you think of the sea waves crashing away,
On a dismal, dark, autumn day in September?
The crash of the waves, like the sky today, sullen and leaden grey.
What about the stony pebbles ashore?
Whilst rounded by the sea’s tide swirling more and more,
It appears all colour is well washed from the shore,
And cast upon the rocks by the tide.
Strands of feathery, grey, smelly seaweed remain tossed aside.
Is there hope of any warmer colour here to be had?
Oceans of grey make me feel sad.
What I must ever try to remember however,
Is the supreme skill of our Father Creator.
Lest I lose my sense of joy,
All manner of splendour He will employ.
I return to the shore at every tide,
What a transformation is now to be spied.
Everything grey, gloomy, needing fresh formation,
Is subject to an amazing transformation.
God in His sovereign splendour of majesty,
Has repainted the sky in pink purple glory.
The shade suffuses its special light,
Changing the view whilst being drawn near the night.
This light has a charm of its own,
Its colour suffuses afar over land and sea foam.
As I watch and wait to see what happens,
The evening sky does not as yet darken.
For in the Creator’s touch, His treasury box,
He carries the changes time unlocks.
The twilight sky some purple still hinted,
Looks as if with precious gold the sky will be newly tinted.
Any glory of grey faded far, far away,
The sun sets golden on this special day.
What a bonus to recall
When, before the Lord, on my knees prayerfully I fall.
A delight in such sight etched on my memory,
I realise how frequently God makes me happy.
A time that started darkly sullen, sad and grey,
Has turned out to be a most marvellous day.
Such is the Lord God’s almighty splendour,
I would offer warm thanks to the Sender.
Lord, each day I hope to grow in faith by understanding and appreciating more about the way in which You work. Today You have reminded me about the marvel of Your creativity and how You work to make me feel happy. Thank You so much. Amen.
