THE CALL TO BE CHRISTIANS

Sue O’Donnell. 05.08.20

“Christians ...should appear as people who wish to share their joy, who point to a horizon of beauty, and who invite others to a delicious banquet.” (Pope Francis Evangelii Gaudium 111-134)

This banquet is feeding off the nourishment

Which is meant to satisfy and sanctify us

By the Bread of Life, the Lord Jesus.

His body has been miraculously changed,

Substantiated by the Holy Spirit into bread for us.

We are offered this in the Holy Eucharist.

By the Lord Jesus, we are fed on holy Bread.

By our Saviour Brother, we dine supping the finest wine.

This is the holy blood transubstantiated miraculously

By the Spirit of glory, making the chalice o0f wine

To be for us in the Holy Eucharist, our sanctity.

“Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men. For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry with goodness.” (Psalm 107 v 8, 9)

How marvellous, how utterly stupendous,

The action is awe inspiringly glorious,

A banqueting table laid out before us.

We become one with Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.

The blessed, best, holiest communion,

Forever lasting union of mankind with God.

What a privilege the Spirit sets before us.

What a favour is graciously gifted us.

We feed off the holiness of Jesus,

Our Father’s purpose defined, able to refine us.

The †and the Holy Eucharist serve one and the same purpose.

“...for this thing the LORD your God will bless you in all your works, and in all to which you put your hand.” (Deuteronomy 15 v 10)

Our call to be Christians, to serve in Jesus’ name,

Is ever the same, again and again and again.

Service is a high calling of the followers of Jesus,

And giving out, we need to be spiritually fed, topped up

On the holy Bread which is Christ Jesus.

Purified and sanctified as He died on the †for us.

The miracle making Spirit is involving us in the Holy Eucharist,

Whereby we are brought into full union with God

Through the divine heart of the love of the Lord Jesus,

His and the Father’s Spirit uniting us in each and every

Holy Sacrifice of the wondrous Mass, eternal life gifting us.

“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. (S)he who has the Son has life...” (1 John 5 v 11, 12)

“Blessed be God.

Blessed be His holy name.

Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man.

Blessed be the name of Jesus.

Blessed His most Sacred Heart.

Blessed be His most Precious Blood.

Blessed be Jesus in the holy Sacrament of the altar.

Blessed be the Holy Spirit the Paraclete...”

(From the Divine Praises)

Lord God I need to come to You to learn what it is You would ask me to do with my life’s time, resources and skills. Thank You for providing such a wondrous way to address You as through Your Son.

Thank You that the Lord Jesus tells us He is the way of life we must follow. Here we will realise how vital prayer is. If Jesus needed to pray, as clearly He did, we must too.

Also we are told by our Lord and Saviour that He is the truth. So when He promises us eternal life, that is a promise which must hold true and the rest is up to us.

It is the Lord Jesus who, by the many and marvellous workings of the Holy Spirit, turns our life around. Fed by the Lord Jesus, we become His good works in progress, our very life is changed.

I praise and thank You for this alteration, drawing us away from self will, self absorption and self centredness, to learn from the example of Jesus who lived a life of love.

I ask that filled by the Holy Spirit, fed and nourished on the Bread of Life, cleansed and fortified by the blood shed at the †gaining forgiveness for us, the re-presentation of this being in the Holy Eucharist, our life

is equipped to change.

This change will be for the better when our friendship with the Lord of life, Jesus who is the Word of life, is ever enhanced by the Spirit in celebrating the sacred mysteries of the Holy Eucharist.

We have so much to gain by living an honourable and worthy life, accompanied by the Master who is our Saviour, impacted upon by the life enhancing Holy Spirit, He who makes us fruitful in service as we adhere to Jesus.

The riches of Your goodness towards us holy Father, promise in the sacrifice of Jesus, that which happens every minute of every day worldwide, the hope of our eternal destiny.

“...eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good, seek for glory, honour, and immortality.” Jesus alive in us by the Spirit, accomplished so very much for the benefit of mankind. (Romans

2 v 8)

Richly blessed by the presence of the Lord Jesus living within us and the Holy Spirit to inspire and instruct us, may we do our highest best to serve the community we live in.

I ask this in the highest, holiest name of the One who gave everything for us, His precious life sacrificed on the †for our benefit, His sacred body and blood offered us in holy communion, let good progress in holiness be evident in our Christian service. Amen.
