THANKSGIVING

Sue O’Donnell. 28.07.20

“Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving.” (Psalm 95 v 2)

Lord, I thank and praise You highly for:

The graced love of the holy Trinity;

Inviting us into Your company daily;

The power of prayer which achieves this;

Many blessings being the outcome of prayer;

The Kingdom of heaven being within us;

This Kingdom gives us a purpose for living to serve;

Teaching us to serve wholeheartedly;

Encouraging and uplifting our efforts to love and serve well;

Showing us where and why we go wrong;

Helping us to put life back on track;

Being in our midst as a force for good;

The development of all that is worthy of Your attention;

Never abandoning us to struggle on our own;

Making each day an exciting venture forwards in faith;

The discoveries we make as to Your kindness;

Forgiveness of all sinfulness being the highest kindness;

Calling us to live to give of our best;

Enabling us to learn through our friendship with You;

Being our Creator, Re-creating Saviour and Sanctifier;

Wanting to share heaven with us, Your family;

Never losing control of this amazing universe;

Making us guardians over the natural world and animal kingdom;

The outstanding beauty of our home planet;

Singling us out for Your closest attention in this vast universe;

Endowing every human life with the dignity of being made in Your likeness;

Your role as a Trinity providing and protecting;

Your work individually and collectively, all done mercifully;

The rich abundance of the world’s resources;

Helping us to share the resources fairly;

Benefits and blessings now every morning;

Answering prayers of petition and intercession;

Allowing prayers of remorse, contrition and repentance;

Delighting in prayers of praise and thanksgiving;

Allowing us the wisdom to see why, when the answer to prayer is ‘No’ or ‘Wait’;

The hope, the peace and the joy experienced in praying;

Shaping life according to Your will, the best for us;

Accepting the †of sacrifice to win forgiveness for us;

Redeeming our sinfulness to cleanse and heal all failings;

Preparing us for life after death, our faith’s confident belief;

A glorious destination promised, our focus on the Trinity;

Our preparation making ready to arrive safely at heaven’s destination;

Confidence in the reality of You calling us forwards, homewards;

Our personal encounter with You, the Lord God Almighty in Three Persons; Evangelists who spread the gospel best news ever;

The fullness of life enjoyed in faith’s hope and peace being a reality;

Family and friends giving life long support in caring fellowship;

The fruitful work of Christian communities;

The godly outcome blessing us from contemplative communication;

Gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and reverence;

The charisms used in Christian service;

All the graced blessings of the celebration of the Holy Eucharist;

Weekdays for work, Saturdays for leisure, Sundays for extra prayer and

communal worship;

Setting us free from doubt, fear, sin and suffering;

Safeguarding, when asking to receive, from all that threatens us;

Daily opportunity to worship and count the everyday blessings;

Shared laughter, tears, joy and fears;

And perhaps, most important of all, is the grace received.

“...that our hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2 v 2, 3)

“Let the heaven and earth praise Him...For God will save Zion...that they may dwell there and possess it. Also, the descendants of His servants shall inherit it, and those who love His name shall dwell in it.” (Psalm 69 v 35, 36)

“In You, O LORD, I put my trust,” (Psalm 71 v 1) for Zion is the heavenly city and You prepare a place there for us. We are the inheritors of Your promise fulfilled by the Lord Jesus our Saviour, and ratified by the

Holy Spirit, our Sanctifier. What cause for thanksgiving! Please keep us praying to express our appreciation

daily. Amen.
