“Exalt the Lord our God and worship at His holy mountain, for the Lord our God is holy.”
Psalm 99 v 9
The life Giver, the promise Keeper,
The life Fulfiller, the providence Director,
The perfect Father, the supreme Sovereignty,
The God beyond all praising,
Utterly, utterly amazing in His dealings with us, therefore worship! Skills, experience, opportunity, expertise
All God given as grace and blessing.
Lord over science, philosophy, theology,
The supreme Organiser, the world’s Manager,
Lord above medicine, technology, creativity,
The One and only complete authority now into eternity.
Lord of law and order, institutions, psychology,
A craftsman Builder in engineering, mechanics, electrics,
A superb Designer as painter, architect, sculptor,
The unique Inspirer, talented beyond mankind’s asking or imagining.
He who shares His own amazing artistic creativity.
“To God belongs the earth and all it contains, the world and all who live there ... who is He the King of glory? It is God, strong and valiant.”
Psalm 124 v 1, 8
Lord of agriculture, productivity, every industry,
Lord God of chemistry, physics, biology,
The Controller over organisations in all the world’s complexity. May this ever be offered to Your glory, Father,
For oh so richly You bless us when we live by faith.
As to live by faith is to declare You are supremely holy, That Your kingdom ushered in by the Lord Jesus According to His triumphant victory on the †,
This overcomes all evil’s tendency to separate us as family.
We are Your cherished children and we will live, work and pray To honour and obey and praise You fully.
For to live by faith is to strive to do Your will entirely,
Calling on the shared authority of our Saviour Brother and His Spirit all holy.
“ ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit...’”
Matthew 28 v 18, 19
“ ‘If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you’.”
John 15 v 7
Lord, this great commission is our permission to live by faith and therefore to live with hope. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen,” (Hebrews 11 v 1) or not yet
fully seen. Why not? Because as yet we have not prayed sufficiently. It is prayer which softens hardened hearts and informs careless minds. It is prayer which repairs shattered dreams and mends broken lives. “O LORD, revive Your works in the midst of the years! In the midst of
the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy,” (Habakkuk 3 v 2) for although we have failed You,
You will look upon us with favour if we seek to live in and through the Lord Jesus. He is our forgiveness and fresh start.
“Look among the nations and watch – be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in
your days which you would not believe though it were told you.”
(Habakkuk 1 v 5)
“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God...In Him was life and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it”. ( John 1 v 1, 4, 5) We have failed to understand, appreciate, lay claim to the complete victory of the life, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
He alone is the world’s help and healing, replenishment and restoration so we enjoy the fullness of life’s prosperity in every way as You intended, Father. “Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows...He was wounded for our transgressions, He was
bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace lies upon Him,” (Isaiah 53 v 4,5) we can begin again. “Christ has redeemed us...that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through
faith.” (Galatians 3 v 13, 14) “God has given gifts to each of you ...manage them well so that God’s generosity can flow through you.”
(1 Peter 4 v 10) This great commission is ours, to spread the faith, the gospel of hope, peace and joy, satan defeated by the victory of the † . In this all of mankind whatever their calling, can work and pray for the upbuilding of the heavenly kingdom upon earth. Is it Father, that we will find nothing in heaven that is not already established here upon earth when we live by faith, pray and ask, supplicate, intercede and give thanks and praise for answers received? In heaven we will enjoy the fulfilment, the completion of all You have so marvellously began.
“Blessed be You, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,” (based on Ephesians 1 v3) and on earth to those who become His
disciples, ever striving to enhance Your heavenly kingdom. “To the praise of the glory of Your grace, by which You made us acceptable in the Beloved.” (based on v 6) “For we are based on Your workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which You prepared
beforehand that we should do this,” (based on Ephesians 2 v 10) which is pleasing to You, Father, as a Kingdom Maker.
“ ‘Believe in God, believe in Me also’,” (John 14 v 1) the Lord Jesus asks of us. You have already done so very much for us and yet as we pray, will do more. This is all about agreeing by believing in this great commission. “O God, who by Thy Spirit in our hearts dost lead men to desire Your perfection, to seek for truths and to rejoice in beauty, illuminate and
inspire, we beseech Thee, all thinkers, writers, artists and craftsmen; that, to whatsoever is true and pure and lovely, Thy name be hallowed and Thy kingdom come on earth, through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Prayer in St Anslem’s Chapel Canterbury Cathedral
You, Lord that every prayer prayed is a difference made.
