Giving true meaning and real purpose to life.

Who is actively, continuously present to us.

Adapting your life style to accommodate the learning.

Prayer: a helpful rhythm given to the day,
When you pray in a way not obligatory.
Prayer: a brother you gladly seek,
For the difference made to each week thereby.
Prayer: a time and a place where you seek
To be the very best version of yourself that you can be.
Prayer: time carved out of a busy life,
Simply to bring glory to God thoughtfully.
Prayer: a graced time so fine,
You wish to experience this regularly.

And embrace the implications of this free gift.

With the erasing of pain, perplexity, difficulty.
Prayer: where you remain before God expectantly,
Even when He maintains silence, a seeming absence.
Prayer: a discipline undertaken even if maybe
You are as yet, not exactly sure why this is so.

For health and a general sense of wellbeing.

A time in which you invest to gain interest.

And the power to undertake that which seemed impossible.

Prayer: unburdening, asking, listening, hearing,
Then putting into action the advice given.
Prayer: time together with the Saviour of the world,
Asking Him to send His life enriching Spirit.
Prayer: being filled with the same Spirit as Jesus,
That together you take on the world through love.
Prayer: that sacred time, space, place,
Yearning to, learning to walk and talk with the Lord God openly.
“ ‘Lord, teach us how to pray in the same way that John instructed his disciples’.” Luke 11 v 1 The Truth
“With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply.” Matthew 6 v 9 MSG
Lord, please help me to pray, to carve out the right amount of time to do this, for the more I pray the more I want to and the more I do so, the more unsure I become of what form of prayer You want from me.
I love to pray adoringly, thanking and admiring You wholeheartedly. I am empty petitioning and interceding, but need to because You say to ask.
Perhaps the task is to be a variety, different day by day? I suppose what is really important is making the time, place and opportunity for prayer to happen.
But then, when I have engineered a certain stillness, a quietness away from the world, I can become so readily distracted. How do I know if my thoughts, ideas, questions are God given, or simply my reasoning or imagination?
I suppose, by the peace I experience when I know You are with me, safeguarding, shielding, helping, supporting, inspiring, suggesting. Thank You for doing this.
Is prayer supposed to be bliss or more a time of discovery, and thereby sometimes uneasy as You unearth things about my life I would rather not consider or seek to forget readily.
When this happens, surely it is a call to repentance, and this is all very well, but repentance requires a genuine contrition, a keen remorse and a firm resolve not to keep making the same mistakes. So I need the strong impact of the enlightening Spirit.
Proverbs 4 v 23 Lord, we are told “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issue of life.” I have noticed how the impact of the Holy Spirit makes my mind and heart more sensitively alert to the needs of others. May I act upon this.
Come, Holy Spirit of wisdom and truth, help me please to develop such a will to pray, I would not dream of starting the day without time carved out to pray, unless circumstances make this impossible.
Yet thinking about it, even then a quick arrow prayer shot up to heaven is bound to help, I know. Thank You for the life giving, life changing, life enhancing power of prayer.
Psalm 56 v 13 “For You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?” I know You have and I am so very grateful.
I ask Holy Spirit, Lord, that when I pray, You take the lead so I take the right path for that moment in time. I find it hard to simply sit and listen as my concentration wanders all over the place.
Help me please to centre and focus on the Lord Jesus, considering what He would do or say if faced with a similar situation to that which I am praying about. Please polish up my listening skills, for I have not practised recently nor sufficiently.
1 Timothy 6 v 12 The Truth ‘Why pray at all?’ someone may ask. Timothy has the answer. “Fight the good fight of faith, living in the good of the eternal life given you when you were called, when you made your public confession of faith in Christ Jesus.”
This does not only remind me how vital prayer is to living a godly life, it issues a call to pray for those who as yet, are not blessed by a Christian faith. Holy Spirt Lord, help these to seek and find the friendship of Jesus.
Empower us all to see what a huge difference to life knowing the Lord Jesus as Saviour, as God’s revelation of love, wisdom and truth, as the Redeemer of all our faults and failings, the Master then wanting to Shepherd us, and what an impact this has.
The joy of this experience is our faith’s uplift and encouragement. Thank You so much. Please keep us praying about everything that matters, pausing to move away from the rush of the day and even whilst talking, stopping to listen.
Remind us too, that it is so helpful to pray whilst reading the sacred Scriptures, that fount of godly wisdom and knowledge open to all who hear God’s call. And if we are deaf to this please, please heal us.
Prayer has to be learned and practised if it is to become the life building process it is. Sit with us Lord of the Spirit. Pray in us. Dare I say ‘Please take charge of us.’ It would be so beneficial because “By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.” (1 John 4 v 13) Yes, indwell in us Holy Spirit of love, for You will enable us to love in return as we pray. Amen.
