Go out and about in late autumn.
Find a glade God has made.
Choose a day mild enough to remain awhile,
To adopt the still style of prayer.
Prayer which does ponder the beauty of nature,
Wonder at the marvel of colour.
It is a God given fill of happiness
To feel the thrill of awe,
As your eyes pour over the scene.
What was here before the amber, the orange, the ochre? Why the splendid scarlet and crimson bush, all a-rush?
Is the tranquil calm come to disarm a life,
Transformed by flamboyant, fabulous vibrant shades,
As effective and dramatic as sizzling, scorching fireworks?
Or is this colour meant to be contrasted by towering pines, So strong they look as if nothing could disturb
Their dominance in greening up nature forever.
Overhead may be vividly red, brown on the ground,
But in between with verdant green and glowing gold, Sufficient to hold your attention and mould your thoughts. You could be caught up in a reverie of silence,
As to just how beauty enthrals us.
Yes, the focus of autumn, its decided drama
Being in swathes of warmer colour,
Even in early November you can sit outside
And be captured by the thrill that will spill
Out from your mind, you find, into your emotion.
All due to the devotion of the Creator.
God, our Father, chooses to use nature
As a means of communication with dedication to the result. Surely we can now see the warmer colour so prevalent, Whilst on the whole what is relevant to life
- We are actually witnessing dying all around us –
Yet what a contrast, where colour surges, urges
Upon us thoughts of God’s goodness,
And we would no be mistaken, not at all.
For the ongoing call of life dying, is later life’s rising,
Just as will happen for us if we believe in the Lord Jesus,
As the Saviour come to redeem us from final separation,
Set apart from our Father’s heaven of true love.
This love from heaven above is always life affirming.
Amidst the deciduous trees dying down,
Colour is a reminder of the authority of the Creator,
Who always works with the majesty of beauty.
Love’s sensation upon our mind and entwined within the heart,
We start to live with a realistic hope,
That of God’s every promise, fulfilled by Christ Jesus,
Whose love for us was so strong, death could not
Did not, hold Him captive in the grave.
Faith in Christ Jesus is full of hope for us.
Let this be stirred up by early November colour,
As you go out and about in late autumn.
Find a seat to spend some time in silent reflection.
What or who, how or why is our connection with God? Uncover more truths about the life and death of Jesus,
And you will be able to answer the question.
Faith and beauty are both endowed with God’s richest purpose.
It is up to us to find this as we seek to speak with the Lord Jesus.
And ask for an increase in our awareness of God’s beauty. Wonder being the wellspring of praise for everybody,
We do well to make time to find a space and place
Away from the daily hurly burly and rush of demands
To command our attention to stop, be still and become appreciative
As we glory in the wonder of early November colour.
How busy is God’s will, how vast His skill.
We offer then all thanks for our life in Jesus,
And the way in which this opens our eyes wider
So we see beauty everywhere about us.
To be made a child of God through the Lord Jesus,
Asking and allowing the Spirit of holiness to work with us,
Is to become blessed in our efforts towards living for others. Then by love, we find more as to how God loves us fully,
For His love is never outdone in generosity!
Lord, dearest Father, let us ascribe to You all the glory due for all that is holy and all that is made to be of enthralling beauty.
The early November colour enables us to worship You in the splendour of nature, when we find a silent space where we feel a sense of awe.
“I will praise You, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praises to Your name, O Most High.” (Psalm 9 v 1, 2)
Your name as Father, Creator and Deliverer. Your name as Provider and Artist painting our world in wondrous colour. Thank You for the awe inspiring marvel of late autumn in which we rejoice.
“Who is like You, O LORD? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, awesome in praises, working wonders?” (Exodus 15 v 1 NAJB) Your wonder of colour in nature is prevalent in late autumn, a final, joyous finale, prior to passing.
Surely this helps us to know of Your love for us, to recognise this so readily in very many places around us. Ever let us praise the glory of colour and the love of the Lord Jesus.
“Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises”, (Psalm 47 v 6) praises to the God of our salvation, who gifts us fullness of joy in our awareness of Your presence.
“You will show us the path of life, in Your presence is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16 v 11) in Your creation and our re-creation through the Person of our Saviour Brother, the Lord Jesus. “At Your right hand are pleasures forever more.” (Cont)
For I am certain that nothing - except of course, our own wilful sinning – “Shall be able to separate us from Your love, Lord God, which is gifted us in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (based on Romans 8 v 39)
“Sing praises to the LORD, you saints of His” – that in us, all praise and thanks ever be for this mercy as shown us in the Lord Jesus – “And give remembrance of His holy name ...His favour is for life.” (Psalm 30 v 4, 5)
May the entire world come to recognise Your unforgettable deeds of merciful love and generous provision in giving us such a beautiful world to live in. “Sing to Him, sing praise to Him, tell of all His wonderful acts.” (1 Chronicles 16 v 9)
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever.” (Psalm 118 v 1 NLT) Let us please, ever have the confidence to call You ‘Father’, because of all the Lord Jesus has taught us and the grace won for us.
“We thank You, O God! We give thanks because You are near”, (Psalm 75) the evidence is here before our eyes seeing Your beauty. “With my mouth I will give thanks abundantly, and in the midst of many I will praise You.” (based on Psalm 109 v 30)
“It is good to give thanks to You, Lord, to sing praises to the Most High”, (Psalm 92 v 1 NLT) for that is who You are and You always confer such love upon us, this love knows no bounds.
The beauty of the work and the mercy shown to us in the Lord Jesus, shows us “We are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and let us be thankful, and so worship You, Lord God, acceptably with reverence and awe.” (based on Hebrews 12 v 28) Amen.
