“Those who live as God’s sons (daughters) are happy to be led by God’s Spirit.” (Romans 8 v 14 The Truth)
This is an understatement!
The Holy Spirit is vitally necessary to us
If we are to consecrate the world to Christ Jesus.
It is late Advent and we are waiting,
Waiting to celebrate the time of His coming.
Advent being a time of serious reflection,
We must ask of ourselves a pertinent question or two.
Has our year been filled by the Spirit?
Have we made concerted efforts to be holy?
Have we made any prayers in twelve months,
Or are we remaining entrenched in continuous failings?
If so, we need a Saviour more than ever!
If so, now is the time to go to our Father,
Asking for the help of the correcting Holy Spirit.
The Lord God, the Almighty, will give this,
Because He is ever most generous in mercy,
He wants us to be holy and entirely so.
This is the very reason Jesus is born to us.
Come, Holy Spirit of reverence,
Come, teach us deference to all that is upright.
Christmas is within sight, nearly here.
Draw near to us to make us ready to receive.
To receive of the Lord Jesus is profound blessing, such joy.
It is a new beginning, usually sorely needed.
Come, make us ready to accept readily
The greatest Christmas present there ever can be,
The presence of the Almighty in a Baby!
Come Holy Spirit of awe and wonder.
Cause us to ponder the Christmas reality.
For then, surely we will want to be holy,
That we might please and honour our Father,
Who has changed the possibility of how we live,
As He does give us His holy Son,
The One who will inspire us to seek holiness.
Yours, Holy Spirit, is that power of inspiration.
Come, be our dedication to holy love and mercy.
Make us ready, really ready to receive
Of the guarantee that God’s kingdom on earth
Will be given birth as Jesus comes at Christmas.
“Now may the God of peace Himself, give you peace always in every way.” (2 Thessalonians 3 v 16)
“I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress. My God, in Him I will trust.” (Psalm 91 v 2)
“In the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning” (Psalm 110 v 3) the Son of God will be born amongst us. Come Spirit of marvels, help us to be truly amazed.
For it is when we feel overwhelmed by our Father’s power of love, His gifting, we are able to offer adoration. Come, Holy Spirit of admiration.
Come now to make us really ready to receive the most precious gift of heaven, God’s very own Son who comes straight from the Father heart of love. Come, Holy Spirit of reverence.
“O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.” (Psalm 108 v 1) The glory that awaits us is true love born to us at Christmas, a love to be shared with us eternally. Come, Holy Spirit of truth.
Awake, awaken my soul, my spirit of faith’s trust and dependency, my hope for a brighter, better, holier personal future. Come, Holy Spirit, Life Giver.
“I will awaken the dawn” (v 2) if You help me to make properly ready for Christmas, awaking to rejoice in the birth of my Saviour Brother. Come Holy Spirit of reverence.
“I will praise You O LORD, among the peoples” (v 3) as many, many peoples across the world awaken to the glory of Christmas Day. Come, Holy Spirit of understanding.
Come, show us Mary’s Baby in the mind’s eye, born to be the Prince of Peace, the King of Glory, our Eternal Brother and forever Saviour. Come, Holy Spirit of counsel.
“And I will sing praises among the nations” (v 3 cont), my ears opened to the song of the angels, my eyes opened to the miracle birth, my mind opened to the heavenly wonder. Come, Holy Spirit of worship.
You show us the Lord Jesus and we see our Father’s hand at work, creating our wish to offer praise to the Lord God, our heavenly Father. Come, Holy Spirit of praise.
“For Your mercy is great above the heavens” Lord God, “And Your truth reaches to the clouds” (v 4) yet You stoop down to help us. Come, Holy Spirit of wisdom.
“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and Your glory above all the earth, that Your beloved may be delivered...” (v 5, 6) Come, Holy Spirit of deliverance.
There is not much time left for our preparation. May we not squander this on the unnecessary, but earnestly seek to become holy. Come, Holy Spirit of contrition.
The Lord God in His holiness is about to gift us His love and mercy in a very tangible way. The Lord Jesus will ever invite us into our Father’s presence. Come, Holy Spirit of gratitude.
Show us the humility of the Master, desiring to divest Himself of His divinity, that He could share fully in the human experience. Help us realise this. Come, Holy Spirit of awe.
We can best delight our Father by giving ourselves to the holy authority of our Saviour Brother, allowing Him to shepherd us throughout life. Come, Holy Spirit of deference.
Come, introduce us to our Lord and Master. “He Himself will be peace!” (Micah 5 v 4 TNJB) That peace of knowing our relationship with our Father, so badly damaged or even destroyed by sin, has been mended. Come, Holy Spirit of healing.
Come, show us the name the Lord God gives to His Son, that name which ever will be “Peace, through integrity, and honour, through devotedness.” (Baruch 5 v 4 TNJB) Come, Holy Spirit of wisdom.
We await the King of the nations “The King of kings and Lord of lords,” (Revelation 19 v 16) the long,
long desired of every nation, the Cornerstone of our faith’s trust and dependency, its Alpha and Omega. Come, Holy Spirit of counsel. Make us ready to receive.
Come, bring us to a new birth as we hoped for. You can unite us in love into one family. Please deepen our zeal to overcome all the forces that diminish and divide us.
Come, Spirit of all holiness, come as the Lord Jesus will promise to send You to us. Come, bring us into the presence of holiness and please help us to worship.
It will be You who introduces us to our Brother, revealing who He is, the Son of God promised and prophesied, One come as the Everlasting Father, also as One with You, for He is called Counsellor. Come, Holy Spirit of the Trinity, deepen our appreciation.
We await the wonder of Christmas, the miracle of a virgin birth, the incredible fact that our Creator comes to us as the Word made flesh. How sad for those who do not yet know this.
Come, show us this Child born of Mary, our Father’s perfect reflection of an all loving and merciful personality. Come, Holy Spirit of amazement, ever deepen and strengthen our appreciation of the gift of Christmas. Come, change our world for the better.
Come now, to fill our anticipation of the joy, the wonder at this happening, sent to establish or renew our faith and trust in the love and mercy we need to live by, to receive and to give.
Come, Holy Spirit of Christmas and remain ever with us, for You are the magnificence of holy love in all its life changing, life enhancing, life fulfilling power.
Without You, we have no real understanding, nor appreciation of who our Brother is, and without the Lord Jesus there is no salvation. Come, Holy Spirit of love. Teach us to love with the love we receive from our Father, through our Saviour.
Come, Spirit of joy. “The joy of the Lord is our strength” (based on Nehemiah 8 v 10) now and eternally. Together with our Saviour, the world rejoices with heaven. Thank You for coming to us.
Keep us living as closely as possible to our Saviour Brother, ever deepening, strengthening and empowering our friendship that we do delight our Father. For it is as Three in One, a Trinity we experience the Divine Benediction. Come Holy Spirit of certainty, ensure this will happen through the Lord of all holiness.
“Where shall we find sufficient power to glorify Him, since He is the Great One, above all His works, the awe inspiring Lord, stupendously great, and wonderful in His power?” (Ecclesiasticus 43 v 28, 29 TNJB)
Only in You, Holy Spirit of faith, of reverence, of devotion, of awe, of adoration. Come, Holy Spirit, be the power of our worship as the Divine Benediction born to us at Christmas, stretching out over the entire world. Thank You for being the agent of our reconciliation, veneration, renewal and revival, all according to our Father God’s merciful plan in sending us a forever Saviour. “ ‘I will build My community. And the gates of the underworld can never overpower it.” (Matthew 16 v 18 TNJB) We await the hope, peace and joy of living as one loving, worshipping community under the authority of the Lord Jesus.
We live as servants of His kingdom upon earth, persevering in all the ways of holiness, hoping to delight and honour our Father thereby. Holy Spirit, Lord, please empower us. Amen.
