“Is not your reverence your confidence? And the integrity of your ways your hope?” (Job 4 v 6)
Lord, You are merciful and compassionate,
Desirous of delivering us from sin and sorrow.
The means for this is the love offered in Christ Jesus.
As Jesus hung on the † for us,
satan, the prince of this world was outwitted,
Defeated by an extraordinary means.
What a discovery we are going to make at Easter.
From death comes life, from seeming defeat real victory.
From the dire darkness surrounding Calvary,
We shall see the triumph of an empty tomb.
We watch therefore, we wait, we pray.
We pray in the silence of expectation.
Hope rising, but not yet fully satisfied, we must keep anticipating.
“ ‘Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands’.” (Psalm 100 v 1)
Surely our Brother died for a real reason?
Our discovery, our quest to understand Jesus,
Shows us a cosmic battle with the enemy,
Fought not with swords, no armoury,
But with true devotion, a perfect love offering.
Jesus’ suffering was vicarious, undertaken for us.
Historically in Israel, identifiably war was waged
Against satan and his minions, his mischief, his meddling, his interference, his deceits.
The drama was as intense as could be
For we were to be as family, lost or saved forever.
The battle waged by our Saviour Brother
Was actually for mankind’s heart, soul and spirit.
“For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God.” (Job 19 v 25, 26)
Human history was written in the blood of the †,
The ignominy of a torturous instrument, a cruelty,
Becoming for any who believe in Jesus as Redeemer,
A complete triumph to the glory of God.
Amidst the darkness of death, a searing defeat,
We meet the miracle of a fulfilled promise,
Jesus will ‘arise’ to offer us new life, His life,
His death the achievement of our salvation.
This sinless, perfect Man, His all holy Son,
Has begun a new work of restoration in us.
Jesus fulfilled His destiny as the sacrificial Lamb.
Jesus died that we might live a fulfilled life now,
Shaped by witness, service and worship of the holy.
“Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing.” (Psalm 100 v 2)
Then in addition, an eternal existence of joy in heaven becomes ours.
Each Good Friday is a most sacred day,
Not of gloom, nor doom, but a day for faith to bloom.
Each Holy Saturday, we continue to pray,
To rejoice in the †and give thanks for Jesus of Nazareth,
The perfect Son who died that we might live.
Life has been changed forever, graced, blessed in abundance in Jesus.
Let us then strive to be open to His Spirit,
Revealing to us the full implications of discovery.
The discovery of salvation’s story is such a joy, although remaining a mystery.
“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5 v 20)
“For He made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5 v 21)
Lord, what a key understanding of our faith this statement is. Thank You that the mystery of the † is a reality. Thank You that the narrative has come down through the centuries, not remaining silently hidden away.
May we, each season of Lent, make further discovery as to the Person of Jesus and His invaluable role in our salvation. Let the Spirit’s teaching impact upon us.
Grace, blessing, healing have become ours in the discovery of the gift of Jesus’ life and death on the †. Jesus is the Saviour of the world and I thank You, dearest Father. In the resurrected Jesus our hope of new life lies.
Jesus is the Word who came from You and returns to You so as to fulfil Your promises to save us from all iniquity. satan’s claim upon us is null and void.
What a most wonderful gift of new life is offered us in Jesus. He gives us new life, a life to be lived in response to the gift of love. Let us ever worship before the truth of Your love for us.
May we go through life together, us and Jesus, us and the Spirit in all wisdom and truth. Father, please continue to guide and guard us in our faith.
“...those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5 v 17) Thank You that this promise is now being fulfilled for us.
Let us then bow down and worship before Your heavenly throne, the mercy seat, claiming the love, the life, the death of Jesus as ours, our justification for hope.
Jesus’ death is grace gifted us. His rising to new life will be an invitation issued to us, to accompany Him at all times. Our hope is realistic and full of promise. Thank You for our faith.
Let us continue to pray and look to the †of Jesus, His triumph over satan. Let us claim this liberty as we pray silently alone, seeking to deepen and strengthen our faith.
Thank You for Your divine love personified in Jesus, offered us in Jesus, fulfilled in Jesus. Thank You for the greatness of Jesus’ love for us. Thank You for the † of new life.
Jesus was friendless, forsaken by us. Jesus was scourged and stoned, where this should have happened to us. As Jesus gifts us His heart, may we give ours in response.
Thank You that Jesus ratifies the New Covenant, so life can be ordered, safe, secure, blessed in holiness. Let us ever pray to gain the Spirit of Jesus.
Our lawlessness dealt with, the darkness of sin done away with at the †, let us make and remake the discovery as to what Easter means. Atonement has to have results.
Thank You for our reconciliation with You, dearest Father. May this new age of love, of mercy, of forgiveness not be silenced, but be broadcast worldwide. The world at large needs to know that our sinfulness is dealt with.
You do not impute our trespasses to us, but to the One who was sinless at all times. What a grand gesture, that which offers us integrity. Our healing from sin’s destructiveness is accomplished in Jesus, Jesus, the truth of Your love.
Thank You for redeeming our life from sins’ destructive force. Thank You for the tender, loving kindness of mercy, which gifts us reverence as our confidence. May we ever seek to live in the integrity Jesus reveals as so vital.
May we ever live according to our liberation gained at the †of Jesus, the place where we gain everything, all that is required for a full and contented life where we can worship.
The greatest story on earth is that of our forgiveness at the †. Thank You that this is a true story. Thank You for the cleansing and healing gifted at the † of salvation.
How good You are to us, ever loving Father, Your mercy everlasting, Your truth enduring to all generations. How loving is Your care. Let us entrust ourselves to You.
Lord, may Your love abide in the centre of our life, shaping each day for us, protecting us, being our full safekeeping, that we enjoy our faith life day by day.
May we make a decided approach towards Your heavenly kingdom each day of our life. May we feel at home in Jesus, our true light, our everlasting light, peace and joy. We look forward to Easter Day.
Ever let us offer You our love Father, through Jesus our Saviour, the King of Glory, the Prince of Peace, our Redeemer suffering for us. Thank You for the † of forgiveness. Amen.
