“Once again you will obey the voice of Yahweh your God and you will put all His commandments into practice.” (Deuteronomy 30 v 8 TNJB)
Ashamed, who is to blame?
Are you sorrowful knowing you are sinful?
Have you tried to die to self,
To rise to a new life in Christ Jesus?
Does your life mirror His purposes?
Do you live by faith in Christ Jesus
So as to bear fruit in His holiness?
Do you see blessings of peace, hope and joy newly found abound?
“ ‘My heart rejoices in the LORD! The LORD has made me strong, now I have an answer for my enemies, I rejoice because You rescued me. No one is holy like the LORD! There is no one besides You; there is no Rock like our God...For all the earth is the LORD’s, and He has set the world in order. He will protect His faithful ones...” (1 Samuel 2 v 1, 2, 8, 9)
Do you welcome Lent as a penitent?
Do you gain insight into the law of love
Through calling on the Spirit of Christ Jesus?
What does such insight mean to us?
Can you count the blessings of faithfulness,
God towards us and us towards Him?
Do you determine for Lent to be serious preparation for Easter?
What difference are you looking to make?
Will you take extra time in prayer for this?
“Whoever fears the Lord will act like this, and whoever grasps the Law will obtain wisdom.” (Ecclesiasticus 15 v 1 TNJB)
“She will give him (her) the bread of understanding to eat and the water of wisdom to drink. (S)he will lean on her and will not fall, (s)he will rely on her and not be put to shame.” (Ecclesiasticus 15 v 3, 4 TNJB)
Dearest Father of mercy, thank You that we belong to Jesus Christ, Your promise to cure us from sinfulness, a promise that holds steadfastly faithful and true because “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13 v 8) He is our forever Saviour, the Divine Healer.
Thank You too for this special season of Lent, a time to make extra effort to be united with the sacred heart of the Lord Jesus, so the world may be consecrated to You by becoming holy.
We are in continuous need of the Holy Spirit to understand and appreciate the message of salvation, by which we choose life, and not the separation from You as a Trinity that sin causes.
“Blessed be God. Blessed be His hoy name,” that ever trustworthy name as Deliverer “Blessed be Jesus Christ, the God and the Man,” who takes on human flesh to seek and save us. “Blessed be the Holy Spirit the Paraclete,” (Divine Praises) who stands beside us to cleanse and sanctify us.
May we use the season of Lent well in devoting to fasting, prayer and almsgiving, three pillars of our faith. May the Holy Spirit help us to die to self to rise to the new life the resurrected Lord Jesus offers us in His presence.
This life has to be lived according to the law of love and we are not good at this. For we are fundamentally self centred. Cleanse and forgive us dearest Father, as we plead the Lord Jesus’ † of forgiveness.
“He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; He will remove the disgrace of His people from all the earth. The LORD has spoken.” (Isaiah 25 v 8 NIV)
This is our highest, fullest privilege and blessing. We are set free from sin, death and final separation, according to the victory of the Lord Jesus at the †. We are a pardoned people, praise be!
“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare...” confidently, exuberantly even, overwhelmed by such mercy. We claim in all honesty that You, Lord God, are a Trinity in whom “...is light and in You there is no darkness at all.” (based on 1 John 1 v 5)
It is because You are pure, You are holy and want us to be pure, that we may become holy. Your way Father God, is gifting Your Son as Redeemer and Saviour and Your Spirit as Purifier and Sanctifier. “This is a shield to all who trust in You,” (based on Psalm 18 v 30) thank You.
You call us to a closer union to Yourself during Lent, that this may have an ongoing benefit of our heart and mind being ever renewed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Thank You for this mercy.
Please grant us a spirit of loving reverence today and each day onto eternity. We must exhibit this by loving service undertaken in the name of Christ Jesus, our Saviour. May the Holy Spirit bring to perfection His image within us.
Thank You for this season of grace, intended to renew us in the Holy Spirit and the wisdom and truth we find in Christ Jesus. May we be given the strength to purify our heart, control our behaviour, serving You free from sin.
Oh what a most glorious freedom, the Lord Jesus has come to set us free from sin, death, condemnation and annihilation, by lending us His very own Spirit of holiness.
As the Lord Jesus has truly set us free, let us make sure we stay free, allowing the Holy Spirit to safeguard and guide us, inspect and correct us, so we “Won’t be doing what our sinful nature craves.” (based on Galatians 5 v 16 NLT)
This is a serious concern, for “The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires,” (v 17) thank You.
May Lent see an increase of believers in Your mercy, Father God, in the Lord Jesus as Saviour and Redeemer, placing ourselves under holy authority firmly.
I ask this because “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of sinful nature to the cross and crucified them there.” (v 24) We are at liberty to choose to be made holy!
I ask therefore for the grace for us all to master our sinfulness and conquer to overcome anything and everything that separates us from the cleansing, healing power of Your love and mercy Eternal Father, as offered us by Your Son, our Saviour forever.
Let us be able to show Your loving kindness, Your merciful forgiveness to the world, by developing a greater, fuller, more evident likeness to the way in which the Lord Jesus treated everybody. This is the true glory, us come fully alive in Christ Jesus, attaining to this through our Lenten observances helping us to overcome our faults and failings to set the record of our life straight.
Lord God, we raise our mind and heart to You, so grateful for all You are and all You do, mercifully, lovingly do that we can choose life, an eternal joy in the company of the holy Trinity. This is our aim, our goal, our hope.
Please keep sending Your Spirit of hope to us, to trace upon us a much better likeness to the holiness of the Lord Jesus. His command is to love each other as He has loved us. May we no longer fail in this.
One day we hope to gain the reward of everlasting life. In the meantime, we seek the fullness of the kingdom of love and mercy, which the Lord Jesus has set up amongst us. Here is the chance to live, to live to give glory to the life giving death and glorious resurrection of Jesus, the first born from the dead. He shows us that the Spirit of holiness is stronger by far than the evil which stalks the world.
Jesus triumphed totally over the arch enemy. He made a conquest over sin and death at the †, so satan no longer has any rightful claim over us. We are at liberty! We must give witness by our life’s quality to the great occasions of our redemption.
Christ Jesus’ Passion and crucifixion means we can choose life, all praise, all thanks, and certainly all glory ever be to the magnificent Holy Trinity. We praise the power of holy love so clearly shown as mercy at the †.
Your judgment over this world is revealed as merciful, holy Father. We claim the Kingship of Christ crucified for our holiness, making us the brothers and sisters of royalty. We proclaim Christ the King of Glory.
Father of mercy, profound in love for us, through the love of the entire Trinity, shows us clearly in the incarnation, life, crucifixion and resurrection of our Saviour Brother, we hope to gain an eternal life with You in heaven.
This is our hope, our aim, our goal, our destiny. May we live out the days of Lent accordingly, making properly ready to carry this weight of glory, which will be ours to claim in Christ Jesus’ highest, holiest name.
Thank You for our creation and re-creation. Yesterday saw the landing of the first spacecraft to explore Mars. As far as we know now, in this vast universe – the trip there taking about seven months – we are the only inhabitants made in Your likeness and image, Father God.
What an honour and privilege! But what a responsibility too. May we live well to love, honour and serve You, our feet firmly fixed in the footsteps the Lord Jesus took, whilst our gaze is fixed upwards to heaven. May the Holy Spirit help us to always choose life to live to the honour and glory of the Almighty Trinity. Amen.
