“ ‘It is time. God’s Kingdom is now within your reach. Turn away from your lives of sin and believe the good news that you can have a new and better life’.” (Mark 1 v 15 The Truth)
Stay in touch with the Father
Through the Son, by the Holy Spirit.
There is much to gain
As we reframe our life
In the light of holy loving mercy.
Feel the embrace of love’s fond grace,
Restoring us to our rightful place.
We are ambassadors of Christ Jesus,
Chosen to bring His light of love to others,
As the living, abiding praise of forgiveness.
We all stand in dire need of such mercy,
That love which sets us free from sin.
Begin now to ask for the necessary help.
We have entered the season of Lent.
This time is to be spent reflectively.
Have we developed an ear which listens sufficiently,
Or do we merely snatch a few moments to pray,
Then hurry away to become busy, for better or worse, about our agenda?
“Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.” (Romans 12 v 21 NLT)
We must plead forgiveness through the name of Christ Jesus. He is the peace between our Father and us,
As He accepted punishment upon a †,
To atone for the sins of all the world.
Without this there could be no mercy.
We need to be honest with ourselves about failings, Anything which impairs our relationship with the Holy Trinity.
We need to ask where we have fallen short,
Short of humility, obedience and reverence.
Short in our capacity to live to God’s glory.
We need to be set free from all inadequacy,
Working and praying our way forwards,
Ever seeking to share in the holiness of Christ Jesus.
Lent is to be spent reflectively, prayerfully,
Expectant of God’s mercy, but we have to repent.
“Satisfy us each morning with Your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy at the end of our lives.” (Psalm 90 v 14 NLT)
“Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good.” (Psalm 90 v 15 NLT)
Lord, the more our eyes are fixed on heaven, the less will be the pull of the earth with all its false vanities, disruptive to us trying to live self-givingly, forgetting our wants and wishes.
Thank You for this special time of Lent, when the grace of Your ever well meaning Spirit is so evident to us as we seek to pray with heartfelt repentance. We must express genuine sorrow for the times and occasions where we abandoned our Saviour Brother, the Lord Jesus.
His love for us, exhibited so clearly in His life and death, illuminate clearly how all holy love and mercy originates with You, dearest Father. Jesus is Your image in love and forgiveness. When Jesus hides us in the shelter of Your wings, surely these are His arms outstretched on the †.
“You are a tower of refuge to the poor, O LORD, a tower of refuge to the needy in distress. You are a refuge from the storm and a shelter from the heat,” (Isaiah 25 v 4) and we need this, oh how greatly we do.
In the midst of all worry and distress, whether of our own making or not, please send us the peace of heart the Lord Jesus promises, because we name Him Saviour, Lord and Master, Your living Word of truth and promise of mercy.
Whenever we go wrong, Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Please look upon us with Your unfailing, totally faithful and compassionate kindness.
It makes no sense at all, none, to think You created the world in all its outstanding beauty, seen in the laws of nature, only to abandon it and leave it to its own devices. It is the same for us and when we abandon You, trouble ensues.
You are our life, our reasoning, our hope, dearest Father, merciful Lord. Our wickedness must cause You such sorrow, but such is the strength of Your compassionate, most merciful love, You remain merciful towards us. You do not look to punish us because the Lord Jesus has taken our punishment upon Himself.
Thank You for allowing Christ Jesus to accept the † on our behalf. It must have been agony for You to see Your Son humiliated, falsely tried, tortured, then crucified, all to atone for our sinfulness. You are our Deliverer, Christ Jesus our Saviour Redeemer.
“You are my rock and my fortress. For the honour of Your name, lead me out of this danger” (Psalm 31 v 3 NLT) – all sin is dangerous as it drives a wedge between us – “Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me, for I find protection in You alone.” (v 4)
The traps satan sets are many and often well hidden, therefore very dangerous to us. But Lord Jesus, You are our Father’s rescue plan. You have redeemed us at the †, from all the errors of our ways. We grow to realise this more and more as we pray.
Thank You that the spilling of Your life blood means we can be numbered amongst the saints in glory. This is a true story of salvation, one we celebrate annually at Easter, a time we now prepare for. Save us dear Jesus, and bless Your people as Your inheritance.
Raise us up from our sinful brokenness and govern us. We put all our hope in You for a brighter, better, holier future for mankind, according to the mercy of forgiveness You have gained for us in sacrificing Your holy life.
This is a perfect love, complete in self giving. How we truly thank and praise You, esteem and exalt You, exalt and proclaim Your holy name as Saviour, as Redeemer, as Restorer, new life for us.
Today we enter Lent. What a special opportunity to explore further, the great gift of our Christian faith, especially the Paschal Mystery. May these days be spent well, making proper preparation for Easter joy.
Ever let us offer all praise and thanks for the gift of life and faith, of each new day of opportunity dawning. Lent should be our wake up call, increasing our desire for the company of the Trinity.
Let us become more devoted to these precious times of meeting, when we pray, seeking to ever deepen and strengthen our relationship, grateful for the comfort and consolation of Your presence, Father, Lord Jesus and Holy Spirit Lord.
We want also, to spread the good news of salvation by both words and action. Therefore we need to become more like You, Lord Jesus, reverently and lovingly obedient to the Father’s will, because we are faithful to You and Your teachings at all times.
During Lent we are asked to re-examine our life, its priorities, purposes and aims. Please help us with the necessary tool of introspection, because “The (wo)man who perseveres in his (her) faith, when tested, is blessed.” (James 1 v 12 The Truth)
Help us please, to recognise where we are being tested and maybe why this is so. Also to decide how we are ging to change. Why is this necessary? “Having past the test, (s)he will be rewarded with the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.” (v 12 Cont.)
I am sorry that our love often fails You, almighty Trinity, for You are nothing but love and concern shown towards us. I am truly sorry for my failures to love, to make sacrifices, to put myself out of my comfort zone.
Please show me where I need change and conversion, where my life needs to move in a different direction, necessitating cleansing, by means of Your love probing deep into my soul and spirit.
Please prepare all believers’ hearts to encounter the overflowing power of holy love, that truly life changing, life enhancing power of the industrious Spirit. May no time be lost. We need the Spirt of prayer to impact upon us continuously.
Are there special causes we should be praying for during Lent? Whilst we have to be introspectively reflective so we can progress in holiness, let us not lose sight of the needs, trials, concerns of others, especially the downtrodden.
Lord God, Eternal Father, thank You for gifting us a special season with church times, the annal calendar. As Your healing love is poured out over us by the Spirit, empowering our friendship with You, through that with the Lord Jesus, please wash away our iniquity.
As You cleanse us from our sin, we rejoice to be given the opportunity to begin again. You are the Lord of recurring opportunities and we are profoundly, amazingly blessed, thank You.
As You put new life into our hearts, may this be completely filled by a love which knows no ends, and recognises no barriers nor failures. For after all is said and done, we know that we love You as a Trinity because You first loved us.
In this love Father God, You allowed Your beloved Son to accept the † for our atonement. We are blessed and made holy through sharing the righteous holiness of our Saviour Brother, seeking thereby to delight You.
Our desire is for You, to know You more fully, to be made ready to meet You face to face. To this end, may Lent be a time of hope through inner renewal. I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus, the One who comes to seek and sanctify us, praise ever be.
Thank You so much that the Lord Jesus, always reflecting Your loving mercy and readiness to forgive us, reminds us that a humbled and contrite heart You will never spurn nor despise. We can look to You, confident in Your loving kindness.
But we would know none of this, if it were not for our Lord and Saviour manifesting the pure quality of holy love. How blessed we are to have a Redeemer in charge of our change and conversion. I praise and thank You, dearest Father. Amen.
