“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46 v 1)
Go to Him, in Jesus, in the Holy Eucharist,
Whatever your problem, pain, worry or anxiety.
We pray the Holy Eucharist,
Taking us into the very heart of God,
An intimate, personal, most special meeting.
We are greeting the Lord of the universe,
Saviour and King over us, our hope, our help, our Lord Jesus.
“Why are you cast down, O My soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.” (Psalm 43 v 5)
Salvation belongs to us through Christ Jesus.
We can pour out our hearts before Him.
There is nothing we can offer our Brother did not suffer.
He understands all forms of anguish.
In His Eucharistic presence Jesus comes as the Divine Healer,
The Saviour hidden beneath the form of bread and wine, yet
In His self-giving presence, here to love us back into wholeness.
“O LORD, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.” (Habakkuk 3 v 2)
“ ‘To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him.” (Daniel 9 v 9)
Dearest Father, it is this rebellion in its all too many forms which necessitated the Lord Jesus accepting the † for us. Justice dictated punishment for our sins. But out of sheer mercy, so great is Your love for us, You devised a rescue plan.
I do not know how we can ever thank You sufficiently for such mercy as we find at the †of forgiveness, the Lord Jesus, in His perfect love, taking our punishment upon Himself.
As we adore Him in the Holy Eucharist, offering our Lord and Saviour back to You in all praise of thanksgiving, is not the best way to pray confidently?
I do so, “For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears and my feet from falling.” (Psalm 116 v 8) What mercy!
“I will walk before You, LORD, in the land of the living,” (based on Psalm 116 v 9) thriving now because I live in the Lord Jesus, and hopefully I will live forever to thank You. Your love is ever merciful!
“I believed, therefore I spoke, ‘I am greatly afflicted’” (Psalm 116 v 10) by the sins which weigh me down, for they impair our love’s relationship. I stand in need of mercy.
“What shall I render to You LORD, for all Your benefits toward me? I will take up the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the LORD,” (based on Psalm 116 v 12, 13) Your Son, Christ Jesus.
How mysterious is our Saviour’s presence hidden away from human eyes, but nonetheless really with us to save us from sin, and sanctify our efforts to become holy. Here mercy is fully at work!
“I will pray my vows to the LORD now in the presence of all His people” (Psalm 116 v 14) gathered together as one family around a banqueting table, a feast of love and mercy.
“Precious in Your sight LORD, is the death of Your saints,” (based on Psalm 116 v 15) and we are Your good works in progress towards sainthood, all thanks to the merciful gift of the Divine Healer.
“O LORD, truly I am Your servant...You have loosed my bonds. I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call upon the name of the LORD.” (Psalm 116 v 16, 17)
An angel said to Mary “You shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1 v 21) just as the meaning of His name implies.
Again we are told that from Bethlehem “ ‘Out of you shall come a Ruler, who will shepherd My people Israel’.” (Matthew 2 v 6) But Your mercy Father God, did not stop here.
For You say “ ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved ones of Israel. I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, that You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth’.” (Isaiah 49 v 6)
Your mercy is fulfilled in the life and death of the Lord Jesus, come to earth to save us from sin, final separation and hell’s damnation. You are the Father of every mercy.
We come to celebrate the Holy Eucharist and we can claim “ ‘My eyes have seen Your salvation which You have prepared before the face of all peoples’,” (Luke 2 v 31) all thanks be for this mercy.
As we nourish ourselves spiritually on the Bread of Heaven, we are also receiving the Light of the world, the One we name ‘Jesus’ as He comes as “ ‘A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles...” (Luke 2 v 32)
This is how significant the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, this sacramental Mystery is, being also to “...the glory of Your people Israel’,” (Luke 2 v 32) a complete package of love and mercy to rescue everybody.
How profoundly blessed we become! Lord God, You are with us in Jesus, as made possible by the Holy Spirit hiding His presence in the transubstantiated bread and wine.
The Lord our Saviour who is King, has humbled His very divinity to become human, one like us in all aspects of life except sin, so He could identify fully with us, enabling us to know Him as our Brother.
A Brother who is Saviour, Lord of life, Giver of love, bringing forth mercy in His self-emptying presence. The Jesus who hung on the †for us, is the same Jesus who is hidden before us as the Bread of our salvation.
In holy communion we celebrate our redemption; believing, although not really understanding, this Mystery, for some things are better left until we reach the fuller revelation of heaven.
So Lord God, Lamb of God, Spirit of God, we come before You seeking mercy, knowing this is offered in the Holy Eucharist, praying to better understand and always appreciate all that is done for us.
Lord God, You are hidden in the presence of our Saviour Brother who is Jesus, Christ the King, yet revealed to us by the miracle working Holy Spirit. Thank You for being so lovingly merciful You can reside within us to heal our sinfulness.
We place ourselves in the way of wisdom and truth, discovered in the light of the divine substance of sanctified bread and wine, and we rejoice in Your mercy, the fullest measure of Your love for us.
Lord God, Father of mercy, may we ever thank and praise You, especially as we are spiritually fed and nourished in this Sacramental Mystery of the hidden presence of the holy Trinity. Amen.
