“Whoever believes will not act hastily.” (Isaiah 28 v 17)
Steady the pace!
Life is not a race
But a journey of discovery.
If you hurry
It is similar to worry,
You do not gain insight
Into who the Lord Jesus is,
And what He puts right in life.
To discover Him as Saviour,
You have to make time
For an opportunity
To simply stop and be silent.
What was the hurry anyway?
The quality of life
Is found as a discovery
In the sacraments
Taken reverently,
In the Lord Jesus’ commitment to us.
At the Last Supper,
In the Garden of Gethsemane,
And being led to Calvary.
Meditate on the crucifixion.
In what direction does this
The turning point of history,
A sanctified mystery,
Take us as God’s family?
Pray to find an answer.
To pray you have to
Steady the pace, stop,
Reflect and connect in prayerful silence.
What exactly is our Father,
He who is so merciful,
Offering us His Son,
What is He doing?
What does the †mean
In Jesus’ loss of life?
We all need forgiveness.
Do you think about this?
Questions need answers.
The Lord God answers us
When we keep praying.
And in particular take the time
Or realistically make the time,
To study and pray each day.
The gold mine of wealth
Stored up for us
Who life beyond the †of Jesus,
Is as narrated in the sacred Scriptures.
There we find the Lord Jesus,
Came to fulfil God’s every promise to us.
We are offered new life in Jesus!
Any who seek peace with God,
Who would rather live with hope
In the mercy of our Father,
Will need to discover the truth.
The truth is the Lord God,
The Father of each and every mercy,
Loves us so much, passionately,
He wants us to discover this reality,
In praying, making sense of life.
Sins’ strife has been overcome.
The battle which still rages,
Although it has been fought
And won for us by Christ Jesus,
Is a part of everyday life.
But we combat the strife
Not by hurrying away from it,
Nor being so busy
We leave no time for reflection.
No, the opposite is necessary.
We have to slow the pace
To win the race of life.
We have to decide
To avail ourselves of the benefits
Readily provided for us sacramentally.
And we have to reflect upon spirituality,
As to how this involves us
With regard to sharing life with Jesus,
The One through whom we possess forgiveness.
We need time to discover the Holy Spirit,
Inviting Him to be at work with us.
Open to His wise ministry, then
We will be disciples being made ready
For the future, final and full destiny,
That of a change in our very identity.
We are called to be holy,
Brothers and sisters of Jesus,
Sharing His likeness in all we do,
All we are, all we ask for in praying,
Seeking to be obeying God’s law,
His law for life which is love.
All of this will start to invoke a blessing
When we look to know the Lord Jesus,
By means of the Spirit, changes us.
Love always has a godly purpose.
Do not hurry, nor worry your way through life.
Look to overcome all strife by praying.
Prayer expresses the love we share with the Trinity.
How vital it is to remember where lies the discovery,
In time given over to silence, praying reflectively.
“Don’t worry and say, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ The people who don’t know God keep trying to get these things, and your Father in heaven knows you need them.” (Matthew 6 v 31, 32 NIV)
“Eternal Father, I offer You this day: my prayers, my apostolic efforts; my time with family and friends; my hours of relaxation; my difficulties, problems, distress, which I shall try to bear with patience.” (Source not known)
I will spend time praying, choosing to do this by studying the sacred Scriptures. For there I frequently find information which is exciting, as it adds to the true meaning of life – our redemption by the Lord Jesus.
I am thrilled by what I read this morning in a chapter of the prophet Isaiah, information I have not previously come across. But these words speak life to us and I praise and thank You for this.
I read: “ ‘Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation.” (Isaiah 28 v 16) How exciting! I want to read on.
“Also I will make justice the measuring line, and righteousness the plummet; the hail will sweep away the refuge of lies’” (v 17) surely the means by which satan tries to trick us and trip us up?
“And the waters will overflow the hiding place.” (v 17) Is this the flow of the cleansing, purifying Holy Spirit, teaching us to pray at all times and to keep praying?
I hear You say ‘It is’, for You add “ ‘Your covenant with death will be annulled, and Your agreement with Sheol will not stand’.” (v 18) Is this not saying that love is stronger than death?
The destruction of satan has been dealt with at the †, but we need still to do our part in accepting the gift of salvation, making sure our belief in the Lord Jesus by calling on the Spirit and keeping praying.
The joy of life is our life shared with You, through Your love and mercy offered us in Jesus and made real to us, personally, by the work of the Holy Spirit.
May the Spirit keep us ever praying through the sacraments, such a heavenly gift, and as we study the sacred Scriptures, to learn and put into practise the teaching.
Thank You for the power of prayer which convinces us that You are all loving and merciful, sharing this with us by Your Son and the Holy Spirit, the Life Enhancer.
Each morning as I pray to the Holy Spirit, I ask Him to console me. Today, by reading the above Scriptures, I am fully consoled and comforted, thank You.
By keeping praying I have learned that “There is One Body of Christ and only one Holy Spirit and we all share in the one hope to which we were called in Christ. There is only one Lord, and we all share in the same faith in Him.” (Ephesians 4 v 4 The Truth)
Dearest Father, You are the “One God and Father of us all. You are over all of us. You work through all of us and Your life is in us all,” (based on Ephesians 4 v 6 The Truth) all who accept the Lord Jesus as Saviour, that is, by calling on the Holy Spirit.
Thank You for prayer, for how it stems fear, doubt and worry. Thank You that we can express how sorry we are for our mistakes and failings, knowing You hear and answer us mercifully.
Life takes on an altogether different aspect when we pray, studying and learning, seeking and finding, gaining the truth anew through our Saviour Brother, learning to heed the Holy Spirit we need so much. Please keep us praying. Amen.
