“ ‘When the poor and needy search for water and there is none, and their tongues are parched from thirst, then I, the LORD will answer them’.” (Isaiah 41 v 17 NLT)
Living water
Flowing freely,
Cascading, tumbling,
Rushing, eroding.
Living water
Flowing speedily,
Restoring, replenishing,
Re-filling, instilling.
Living water
Flowing readily,
Cooling, calming,
Helping, healing.
Living water
Welling up,
Surging, urging,
Overflowing, spreading.
Living water
Leaping, seeping,
Refreshing, renewing,
Re-invigorating, flooding.
Living water
Abundantly flowing,
Cleansing, purifying,
Quenching, satisfying.
“ ‘I, the God of Israel, will never abandon them. I will open up rivers for them on the high plateaus. I will give them fountains of water in the valleys. I will fill the desert with pools of water. Rivers fed by springs will flow across the parched ground. I will plant trees in the barren desert…’.” (Isaiah 41 v 17, 18, 19 NLT)
“I am doing this so all who see this miracle will understand what it means – that it is I, the LORD, who has done this, the Holy One of Israel who created it’.” (Isaiah 41 v 20 NLT)
Come, Holy Spirit, in Christ Jesus. Come please, as the living water we need for purifying and sanctifying our thirst in life. All too often we thirst after the wrong things – money, position and status, fame, comfort, luxury. This can cause neglect of the needs surrounding us.
Come, cleansing Spirit, wash us whiter than snow. Take away all impurities, blots and smudges in our character, wipe away those stains which are a disgrace. Alert please, our mind, heart and conscience to our faults and failings.
Come, quenching Spirit, fast flowing around us with plenty of water to nourish our faith, so as to grow the fruits of holiness. Christ Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. You are the growth and our Father is the Gardener.
Come, be in us, our faith in Christ Jesus ever sustained, strengthened, nourished by Your energetic power of growth and Your leading into all the wisdom and truth available to us through the Lord Jesus.
Please shape our prayer to balance it out, and include all that is important to our Fathers to His cause of love and mercy. Again, we need wisdom for this, please.
Be ever our faith’s drive, its mercy, its enthusiasm and exuberance. Make our way of life as modelled on that of the Lord Jesus, fully meaningful, interesting and worthwhile to others, especially none believers. You can make them long to share in the blessings we live by.
Without You, Holy Spirit, Lord, we have no real life of faith within us. For faith must be active, and You are the power behind, within and alongside this drive.
Thank You that You always come by invitation. Please make it that restless hearts and unsettled minds learn this, and so turn to You for an introduction to the Lord Jesus.
You are never in the business of disappointing. Setbacks will become temporary if we but rely upon You to change the circumstances, by changing our hearts and minds.
‘The fellowship of the Holy Spirit,’ is a helpful phrase for us to cling to. It speaks of warm friendship, a companion who can always be ready to help and guide us, uplifting us when we are down, reminding us of to whom we belong.
Just as the Lord Jesus is the Word of Life and offer of love our Father makes to us, You are the Lord of Life, the power within our faith, motivating us and dedicating us.
I ask please, for an ever more strengthening, deepening, widening outreach into society with the gospel message of all our Father accomplishes to save us from sin and final separation, by bringing us to the Lord Jesus.
“O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer! From the ends of the earth, I cry to You for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety,” (Psalm 61 v 1, 2 NLT) the Lord Jesus, the foundation and cornerstone of our faith.
Please keep us praying at all times, relying not only on our own prayers, but thoughts and sentiments others have expressed, which move and motivate us.
Thank You for insisting upon the importance of prayer. It is so beneficial when You counsel and advise us. We are the recipients of a most gracious love and mercy.
Thank You for the faithfulness of Your love and true gentleness. You seem to be always there somewhere in the background of all Christian enterprise, quietly directing us and, if necessary, re-directing us.
Please ever do this through our friendship with, our adherence to, our delight in knowing, honouring and serving our Father, through the Lord Jesus, as You labour.
Your days are endless, Your mercy is tireless. You are synonymous with holy wisdom and truth, love and mercy, kindness and consideration, all of which fused together to conceive and give birth to our Saviour.
“Great is the LORD!” as a Trinity “He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods. The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the LORD made the heavens.” (Psalm 96 v 4, 5 NLT)
“When I look at the night sky and see the work of Your fingers – the moon and the stars You set in place – what are mere mortals that You should think about them, human beings that You should care for them?” (Psalm 8 v 3, 4 NLT) Yet You do!
It is our Father, through the Son, by means of Your efforts, Holy Spirit, Lord, that the Trinity of love “Crowned us with glory and honour, (based on v 5) giving us charge over everything You made.” (based on v 6)
We need You, Holy Spirit, Lord, Faith Builder, Life Shaper, Counsellor, Advocate and Paraclete. We need Your flowing water sweeping over us, working its wondrous ways, calling us to and dedicating us to
Christian service.
May we do our utmost best in efforts and accomplishment, to serve the Lord Jesus, the Master over His kingdom upon earth that You shape and secure. Please ever be our Motivator, its development and outreach, its prayerful offering to God’s glory.
Let us then “Sing a new song to the LORD!” (Psalm 96 v 1 NLT) to You as Three, to each One of You individually. “Let the whole earth sing to the LORD…(and) praise His name.” (v 2)
May it happen that we, the followers of the Lord Jesus, “Each day proclaim the good news that He saves,” (v 2) whilst You secure and anchor the progress.
Please help us to “Publish His glorious deeds among the nations, tell everyone about the amazing things He does.” For “Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise!” (v 4)
“Honour and majesty surround Him; strength and beauty fill His sanctuary” (v 6) and these are the godly qualities we seek to establish and make flourish within God’s kingdom upon earth, as set up for us by the Lord Jesus.
We are honoured to be asked to be one tiny part of this great work of creation and re-creation, of salvation and sanctification. You, Holy Spirit, Lord, never fail us. May we not fail You.
“O nations of the world, recognise the LORD.” (v 7) Let us spend time in prayer to do this, to “Recognise that the LORD is glorious and strong” (Cont) responding to this, the high worthwhile quality of life.
“And I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God’s purpose is that people should fear Him,” (Ecclesiastes 3 v 15) correctly fear, meaning stand in awe, being reverent.
Let us never lose sight of, a grip on God’s truth as revealed to us by Christ Jesus, the living, abiding and ever loving Word of God, but “Give to the LORD the glory He deserves!” (Psalm 96 v 8 NLT)
Help us please, daily to “Bring an offering and come into His courts.” (Cont) For we must “Worship the LORD in all His holy splendour” (v 9) offering the beauty of a life ruled by the Master and Saviour, ever being His work in progress of sanctification, all thanks to You, Holy Spirit, Lord.
Keep us praying at all times, making ready for the return of the Lord Jesus at the end of time. As “He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with His truth.” (v 13)
We must not be found wanting, not lacking in any of the fruit of holiness, actually all summed up in one word, that of love. “I come to You for protection, O LORD my God,” (Psalm 7 v 1 NLT) certain You will not fail me.
For all thanks to Your hard working efforts, I am sure nothing except our own evil, wilful sinning, can separate us from God’s love, as made ours in the Lord Jesus.
Yes, please keep us praying with all praise and thanksgiving, admiration and adoration, expressed to the Almighty Trinity, the One in Three who make us holy, securing our destiny in heaven, our eternal joy.
Holy Spirit, Lord “When You give us Your breath, life is created and You renew the face of the earth. May the glory of the Lord continue forever!” (Psalm 104 v 30, 31 NLT) Continue as You turn our heart and mind to be attentive to our Saviour Lord.
“Let me hear of Your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting You. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to You…Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. Let the gracious Spirit lead me” -and all of Jesus’ followers – “On a firm footing” (based on Psalm 143 v 8, 10)
Thank You for the confident hope and expectancy which develops as You make this happen. Holy Spirit, Lord ever let us adore You, fully appreciating Your concern for us, and efforts made on our behalf. It is always good to pray! Amen.
