“God, our own God shall bless us.” (Psalm 67 v 6)
The blessings flow because Jesus is with us.
He lives in and amongst us by the Spirit.
The Spirit is the Spirit of holiness
Assessing us, addressing us, purifying us.
So day by prayer shaped day,
We become more and more like the Lord Jesus,
God’s love manifest in a recognisable way.
It is essential to pray and listen to this,
The wisdom as narrated by the ancients.
“Let the peoples praise You, O God; let all the peoples praise You. Then the earth shall yield her increase...God shall bless us, and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.” (Psalm 67 v 5, 6, 7)
There is no doubt about this.
Any believer in the Lord Jesus,
Who has personal experience of His love for us
Will tell you this is the truth.
Why? The Lord Jesus comes to us
As truest holy truth, the living Word of God,
To be reverently heard, respected and relied upon.
Jesus gifts us the right to become children of God,
Adopted into His family, by making us holy.
“...and we beheld His glory, the glory as the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1 v 14)
“And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1 v 16, 17)
Lord, “Look upon us and be merciful to us, as Your custom is toward those who love Your name” (Psalm 119 v 132 the singular Invocation changed to plural) as Father of mercy, Son of holy love and Holy Spirit of power.
“Direct our steps by Your word” (v 133 changed to plural as are all the following verses) the living Word of Jesus especially, but also the narrated word of sacred Scripture, “And let no iniquity have dominion over us.”
“Redeem us from the oppression of men” that worldliness which threatens to suck us in so very often. We are all too readily tempted, but when we call on the name of Jesus, we “May keep Your precepts.” (v 134)
Thank You for spelling out holy wisdom and truth so clearly to us in the life, death and resurrection of our Saviour Brother. He is the way in which You bless us, by showing us what holiness means.
“Make Your face shine upon Your servants and teach us Your statutes.” (v 135) whereby we gain wisdom for daily life, open to the correction of the Holy Spirit according to the power of Your all loving, merciful forgiveness, dearest Father
When we weep let this be in genuine sorrow, contrition, remorse and repentance for our individual faults and failings and for those of mankind in general. Repentance must come before renewal and replenishment.
Help us please to keep all Your laws and regulations, for they are for our own benefit and general wellbeing. Save us from the hell of final, eternal separation. Please continue to rescue us by our belief in Jesus.
Let us “Rise before the dawning of the morning, crying for help” because we are resolved to pray and be faithful to You. “We hope in Your Word.” (v 147)
The Lord Jesus is Your promise of saving help, Father God. We praise and thank You for this and for sending Your life enhancing, faith building Spirit to be ever with us.
Together as a Trinity, You are all that we need, to experience the hope, peace and joy made available to us through the power of holy love.
You are our Saviour Father, Saviour Brother and Saviour Sanctifier. We cannot manage without Your blessings. Thank You for enriching life immeasurably through our faith in You.
Your enormous, amazing, life changing love for us is the most precious aspect to life we can ever discover. And You make this straightforward for us, Father, gifting us Your Son, the One who resides nearest to Your heart of love and mercy.
Our life is changed forever once we realise we have a Saviour and respond to the call Jesus makes to us to follow Him by ever looking to the Spirit’s power, such a life giving power, thank You. Life which was somewhat empty without Jesus, is now full to overflowing.
“Hear our voice according to Your loving kindnesses,” not one, nor only a few, but too many to count, “O LORD, revive us according to Your justice,” (v 149)as meted out at the †of Jesus.
The penalty paid and restitution made by our Saviour Brother, we are not just free, but gloriously free, set at liberty from satan’s interference and our own fallen nature.
We are redeemed! We belong to the Lord of life, the Word of life, Your offer of life. “You are near, O LORD, and all Your commandments are truth.” (v 151)
“Concerning Your testimonies, we have known of old” our personal history of coming to faith in the Lord Jesus, discovering the blessed working of the Holy Spirit, we know Your “Law is perfect correcting the soul,” (Psalm 19 v 7) making us wise, a cause for rejoicing being enlightening.
It is the Spirit in Jesus, of the Lord Jesus, who teaches us in all holy wisdom and truth to warn us and guard us from all that is evil In keeping to Your command to love “...there is great reward”, (v 14) thank You.
“Who can understand his (or her) errors? Cleanse us from secret faults,” (Cont) the Holy Spirit shining His spotlight into the deepest recesses of heart and mind. “Let the words of our mouth and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable in Your sight...” (v 14)
For Father, Son and Holy Spirit, ever blessed and most holy Trinity, You are “Our strength and our Redeemer” (Cont.) and warmly we thank and praise You.
You are the promised help of all who seek You, speak with You in prayer. Please ever “Plead our cause and redeem us,” (Psalm 119 v 154) it is so comforting to know Lord Jesus, that You pray for us. Thank You for telling us this happens.
“Revive us according to Your word...Great are Your tender mercies, O LORD; revive us according to Your judgments,” (Cont) as at the † of the Lord Jesus, You forgive all our sinfulness, proclaiming ‘not now guilty!’
“Revive us, O LORD, according to Your loving kindness,” (v 159) for this is always the way You work. “The entirety of Your word is truth and everyone of Your righteous judgments endures forever.” (v 160)
O Most Holy Trinity, You are our Saviour and our Sanctifier, all praise, all thanks ever, ever be, both now and eternally, “We rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure.” (v 162)
You are our treasure, our very richest treasure in life and in death, the life beyond the grave where we will have the ultimate and utmost joy in claiming You as our Father, our Saviour Brother by means of the Spirit, making this possible.
All praise, all thanks, all glory ever, ever be to the One in Three who always seeks to bless us. How indebted we are. Amen.
