“Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.”
Joel 3 v 14
Inspire prayer.
Create a space.
Find a place.
A place where
You can come
Before the God of mercy,
Confidently, comfortably,
Unhesitatingly, expectantly.
Bringing to Him
Everything on your heart,
In your mind,
That which you find burdensome.
Seek the healing love of God.
“The LORD will be a shelter for His people and the strength of the children of Israel.”
Joel 3 v 16
That wonderful true love
Shown us, gifted to us,
Made known to us
In the presence of Jesus.
He is the hope
Because He is God’s Son.
He is the promise
Because of His †.
He is the process
For He lives in all holiness.
Jesus is the way forwards
In faith, through prayer,
Because He says to us
With entirely holy authority:
“ ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”
John 14 v 6
“ ‘The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly’.”
John 10 v 10
Yet joy often seems to be in short supply. This must be because we fail to turn to You, Lord Jesus. Open the eyes and ears of our mind and heart that we all seek to find You. I ask that “The God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,” (based on Ephesians 1 v 17) through You, Lord Jesus, living Son, holy One. I ask that “The eyes of our understanding being enlightened, we may know what is the hope of His calling,” (based on v 18) that call to see the holy purpose in life, that the meaning found in You, Lord Jesus, in Your service. You are fullness of life to us as You promised, but this must be experienced for ourselves.
To know You, really know You, is to want to follow You in order to glorify God. Your words are life to us, Lord Jesus. May we seek You more and more, praying to understand and accept You. You reveal the Father’s word to us as the living Son, the One who manifests the biblical teachings, the promises and the prophecies. Make us wise as we pray seeking to understand You, Lord Jesus. “ ‘Whoever hears these sayings of Mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on rock...”. (Matthew 7 v 24) May our faith be firmly establish on You, extended in You.
Grant us a faith that “ ‘...did not fall, for it was founded on the rock,” (Matthew 7 v 25) which we come to recognise as we pray, accessing the love, mercy and forgiveness of our Father because of all the grace and favour You have won for us. Lord, we need to learn more about Your †, the † of our salvation. It is when we accept You as the Saviour of the world, our life takes off in the direction of heaven. Let us pray to understand better, to know You more fully, follow You more closely.
“When Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority...” (Matthew 7 v 28, 29) May we pray to share in this experience of Your holy power and authority, asking to receive of Your Spirit’s teaching. “By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God.” (1 John 4 v 2) We cannot get to that understanding of ourselves, by ourselves. Lord Jesus, send us
Your teaching Spirit, the Spirit of wisdom and truth to make us strong in faith, committed to prayer, drawing us closer to You. “By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” (v 6) Help us Lord, teach us by Your Spirit.
We need to understand the workings of our Father, according to Your life and death as His promise fulfilled in You, Lord Jesus, seeing “ ..what is the greatness of His power toward us who believe...which He worked in You when He raised You from the dead...” (based on Ephesians 1 v 19, 20) You are the living Word of God, the hope of our faith, the promise of a new life seeking holiness, granted, gifted. The Lord God “Put all things under Your feet and gave You to be head over all things to the church, which is Your body, the fullness of You who fills all in all.” (based on v 22, 23)Please fill our life with the desire to share Your holiness.
Lord Jesus to know You as our Brother, this is the confidence of our faith because we can identify with You and become the inheritors of God’s promise. “For a long time Israel had been without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law; but when in their trouble they turned to the LORD God of Israel, and sought Him, He was found by them.” (2 Chronicles 15 v 34) It is the same for us. As soon as we look to the †, Your †, Lord Jesus, we can plead for mercy, find forgiveness and sense the presence of God. The compassion of God is granted to us because of Your sacrificial death. The miracles become real to us because of Your rising to new life, that life You invite us to share. The prophets and the promises of God are seen to be entirely true, fulfilled in You. We seek to find God and find Him in You. He seeks to find us, and finds us living in faith, with prayer, in You. I praise and thank You for all You do.
“This is what the LORD says : ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6 v 16 NIV)
Lord Jesus, may Your Spirit teach us to do this. For “Salvation belongs to the LORD. Your blessing is upon Your people.” (Psalm 3 v 8) But we have to discover this in prayer, accepting Your † of our salvation and life’s new direction, Lord Jesus. Currently there is such a tide of unbelief. “Many are they who say of me, ‘There is no help for him (or her) in God’.” (Psalm 3 v 2) But our help is in Your name as the Saviour Lord Redeemer. Please teach us to pray and call on Your name. Teach us to look at life with the eyes of faith.
It is prayer which enables us to look at life with the eyes of faith. “I am a companion of all who fear You, and of those who keep Your precepts. The earth, O LORD, is full of Your mercy; teach me Your statutes.” (Psalm 119 v 63, 64) I ask this that I may be equipped to help others come to faith, to turn to prayer, to call dearest Father, on the Lord Jesus, recognising Him as the Saviour of the world, our personal Redeemer, the living Word who manifests Your written word. “Forever, O LORD, Your word in settled in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all generations...” (v 89, 90) We learn this through Jesus. May we turn to Him.
Come Holy Spirit of Jesus, co-equal with the Father, cause us to seek the meaning behind life and the way to live to give glory to God. Teach us through the Scriptures. Teach us to look to find Jesus as Lord, the living Word of God, Son of our Father, the Saviour Messiah, “Christ crucified...the power of God and the wisdom of God.”
(1 Corinthians 1 v 23, 24) “Whoever is ignorant of Scripture is ignorant of Christ.” (St Jerome) Teach us please, to know Him and follow Him as the Saviour, the One to restore us to fullness of life through faith which always seeks God’s holy purpose by our devotion to prayer and service offered in Jesus. May we continue to pray day by faith filled day. However hard life is, it only gets harder without Jesus. May we believe in His active presence because we pray. May we recognise the answers to prayer.
Let us pray and seek the voice of Jesus speaking into our circumstances. Let us see, hear, feel His healing hand at work, O Holy Spirit of Jesus. Let us seek Him as the effective presence of God’s will, God’s way, God’s Word. Make us ever ready to receive of more of Jesus, the One to bring us out of unbelief where we experience much fear and worry. Let the circumstances and eventual outcome of our life be shaped by Jesus, His sacrifice our hope of deliverance from all that is evil.
“ ‘I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father, and I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” (John 10 v 15, 16, 17) May we therefore come before You with everything, all joys, sorrows, worries, concerns, celebrations. I ask this for Your life is the good news we are to live by, to honour, to share. Please help us by Your Spirit ever working with us to open the eyes of our faith to Your saving presence, Your life transforming presence.
Come Lord Jesus, come to us individually to help and protect us. May Your Spirit take away the hostility of our non belief, our resistance, our reluctance, our doubt and negativity. Please answer us who seek You on behalf of those who have as yet not received the blessings of faith and prayer. Lord Jesus, be at the centre of all our lives. Keep us in Your holiness, Your goodness, Your right way of living. Be in our praying. Be our faith, our prayer, our power of wisdom and understanding of all things holy. May we all pray and discover, each of us, our own way of recognising You in our midst. It is life giving, life transforming to have knowledge of You, Lord Jesus, for You enable us to see life with the eyes of faith, trust in God.
“He will guard the feet of His saints ...” (1 Samuel 2 v 9) Lord Jesus, You teach us regarding the sovereignty of a merciful Father who determines life for us. “ ‘My heart rejoices in the LORD...I smile at my enemies, because I rejoice in Your salvation. No one is holy like the LORD, for there is none besides You, nor is there any other rock like our God...For
the LORD is the God of knowledge; and by Him actions are weighed’.” (1 Samuel 2 v 1, 2, 3) You teach us to pray, to believe, to trust and depend. Thank You. “ ‘(S)he who glories let him (or her) glory in the LORD’.” (2 Corinthians 10 v 17)
“I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the LORD,” (Psalm 34 v 1, 2) because I have been taught to look at everything with
the eyes of faith. “Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together,” (v 3) for He is our Saviour Redeemer Restorer to life in all fullness now and the hope of heaven. “I sought the LORD, and the heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” (v 4) I am so very, very grateful.
I know by experience “The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous,” (v15) as we are made family in Jesus. “The righteous cry out and the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles,”(v17) not necessarily by dispersing the troubles, but by granting us the strength to cope. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him (or her) out of them all.” (v19) One day we shall see heaven. “The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, and none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.” (v22) I offer all praise and thanksgiving for prayer, for faith, for the life and love of Jesus which encourages us to look with the eyes of faith. Faith is the measure of a fulfilled life. Amen.
