“He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53 v 5)
The Mass is supreme
Because it is Jesus’ love celebrated,
That we, as God’s family
Become dedicated to this very love, our spiritual prosperity resulting.
All the kindness of loving mercy
Is in the daily Mass celebrated sacramentally.
We do not say the Mass, we pray the Mass.
We celebrate the saving love gifted us
By the death of the Lord Jesus,
Hung on the †to take the punishment due to us.
We pray to become more holy
As we receive the body and blood of Christ Jesus.
This is life changing in its implication.
We see heaven as a destination
And know we are on a journey made in faith.
Faith asks us to trust in Jesus as Saviour,
The Lord over life and death,
The Lord over our changed intention.
As godly love is put into action by the Holy Spirit.
“What shall I render to the LORD for all His benefits towards me? I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.” (Psalm 116 v 12, 13)
The Spirit of power is ours to share with Jesus,
Proclaiming, naming Him as Saviour.
Our insight and understanding alter, become clearer,
Go deeper, reach wider, when the Spirit touches us.
The Spirit shares the Lord Jesus with us
In this incredibly intimate way of God’s glory,
Making us fully alive as our Father of mercy intended.
We learn to live no longer for ourselves
But to focus on Jesus so as to see, hear,
Recognise and respond to the needs of others.
It is by love the Lord Jesus lives within us
As the Spirit of love sets to work in the Mass.
This Sacramental Mystery, this Paschal history
Celebrates Jesus’ victory at the † of Calvary.
We are triumphant in our Father’s richly invaluable, all loving kindness
In allowing His Son to live and die for us,
Gifting us liberty through unimaginable mercy.
What healing there is in the blood shed,
Generosity in the nourishment of bread given.
“ ‘Pardon the iniquity of this people, I pray, according to the greatness of Your mercy ...’” (Numbers 14 v 19)
“All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, and shall glorify Your name. For You are great and do wondrous things, You alone are God.” (Psalm 86 v 9, 10)
Great and awesome is Your love for us, Father of countless mercies, but none greater than our forgiveness as won for us at the †, by the Lord Jesus paying the price of our punishment. Mercy is love sent from heaven.
What loving kindness is visited upon us. Praise be for Your mercy! You invite us to become “compassionate as You are compassionate” (Luke 6 v 36) and provide the means for this, in the Spirit at work through the Lord Jesus.
We believe in Your love for us and therefore pray: “ ‘Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord have mercy’.” (Traditional Prayer) And grant us the peace of Your healing love as gifted us by Jesus.
You are faithful to all who trust in our Saviour, coming to us as Your promise, so to seek reconciliation in the sacrament of His name, that we shed all our shame, for mercifully loving, You take the blame away.
Thank You for being so gracious in the face of all our sinfulness, which causes such suffering amongst us. For You send Your Son as the Divine Healer, able to repeal our waywardness. What a mercy!
As You forgive, may we learn to do the same. As You restore us to grace and favour, may Your Spirit equip us to be generous in our efforts to help each other.
As clearly You love us, the Lord Jesus makes this very evident to us, may we learn to love each other fully, no longer holding on to any kind of resentment.
Please teach us to pray for each other, for it is impossible to feel anger or resentment if sincerely praying and forgiving. The Lord Jesus’ suffering at the †must be our atonement for any enmity.
Our hope of all types of healing is firm because “By His knowledge Your righteous Servant shall justify us, for he shall bear our iniquities” (based on Isaiah 53 v 11) according to Your mercy, Father God.
How I thank and praise You that our Saviour Brother having borne “Our sins in His own body on the tree, we having died to sins, might live for righteousness...” (1 Peter 2 v 24)
This is Your merciful kindness towards us, the truth of Your promise of saving help fulfilled. And it is exactly this amazing event at Calvary we recall in the Mass, that unique offering whereby the Lord Jesus renews His sacrifice in the Eucharist.
This union of holy communion unites us intimately to the actual presence of the Lord Jesus, hidden under the consecrated, sanctified form of bread and wine. This is a lasting union, praise be, everlasting in fact.
What love is this so committed to us, so genuinely fully self-giving? It can only be the power of holy love wondrously at work, seeking to change us to become more like our Brother, the One who loves completely.
All our healing of heart, mind, body and relationships arises out of the atonement the Lord Jesus has made for us and the institution of the Mass at the Last Supper, thank You.
What an amazing provision now: “ ‘Do not fear little flock, for it is Your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom’,” (Luke 12 v 32) this kingdom where love should reign supreme. Plus we gain eternal salvation.
What a truly amazing grace! All we have to do is believe and receive. Truly this is love and mercy fully at work. “He sent His word and healed them.” (Psalm 107 v 20) You sent the living and abiding Word of the Lord Jesus to be our forever Saviour and Healer, “And delivered them from their destruction.” (Cont)
All our transgressions are mercifully forgiven at the †, an action recalled in the Mass as happening now. We are being strengthened to no longer violate the boundaries set by obedience. We are given the opportunity to become more reverent. And all this through the mercy of love!
By our sinfulness we expose ourselves to all manner of disarray, distress, disturbance, depression. We stand in continuous need of a healer to rescue us from this calamity, whether an unperceived or wilful spiritual decline.
It is because of Your mercy and the strength of the Lord Jesus’ love for us, shown by the lengths He went to accepting the †, we learn what the power of holy love means, we see what it can accomplish.
Oh to be made a new creation no more under the condemnation of sin! May we ever seek deliverance with a contrite heart committed to repentance. “Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!” (Psalm 103 v 1)
Dearest Father, together with the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, we bless and glorify Your name as Saviour, Redeemer, Healer, Restorer, Life Giver, most merciful One, forgiving and restoring us to grace and favour.
Blessed by “Loving kindness and tender mercies,” fully, rejoicingly nourished and replenished in our faith as You are the Trinity “Who satisfies our mouth with good things” (based on Psalm 103 v 4,5) especially at the Mass.
Really all words are inadequate to properly describe the experience of receiving the Lord Jesus’ body and blood. But what we can do is offer our thanks and praise with the re-affirmed intention of offering ourselves in service to the Lord Jesus.
May this decision be followed by a daily life given over to helping many to seek and find faith, to live by this faith so the world becomes consecrated to You, dearest Father.
All of this of course, has to be undertaken by our friendship with the Lord Jesus, He who shepherds us and by the Holy Spirit sees that we lack nothing needed to lead a happy and holy life.
Let us ever thank You Lord God, as we call upon Your name as a Trinity and work to “Make known Your deeds among the peoples” (Psalm 105 v 1) in the eternal faithfulness, lovingly, mercifully shown to us.
Then let the power of holy love, especially that revealed by the Mass, ensure the maintenance and extension of the Lord Jesus’ holy kingdom upon earth. For this must be the place and way of life whereby we prepare for our homeland in heaven.
“Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The LORD is my portion’ says my soul, ‘Therefore I hope in Him’.” (Lamentations 3 v 22, 23, 24) What would life be without this hope? Amen.
