“There are friends who point the way to ruin, others are closer than a brother.”
Proverbs 18 v 24 TNJB
A true friend appears to us in many ways.
Do You think of Jesus as a true Friend
When you meet with Him in the Eucharist.
He is here of course, fulfilling several roles:
Victor, Paschal Lamb, Saviour, High Priest,
The Promise of God’s hand here plainly manifest,
And essentially, most mysteriously, marvellously, miraculously, The Bread of Life, gift of our Father’s love for us.
He gives us His Son to feed us spiritually.
Spirit led, be fed on holy Bread.
This Bread, the body of the Lord Jesus,
Maintains, sustains us spiritually,
Just as our body requires nourishment to remain physically healthy. Saved by grace at the † of Jesus, blessed by forgiveness.
“This was to show for all ages to come, through His goodness towards us in Christ Jesus, how extraordinarily rich He is in grace. Because it is by grace that you have been saved, by faith, not by anything of your own, but by a gift from God...”
Ephesians 2 v 7, 8 TNJB
Jesus, perfect in His humanity, Extraordinary in deeds of loving service,
Ever reverent and obedient to our Father’s wishes, Instituted the Eucharist knowing death faced Him. He desired to remain with us always, being our Saviour, So He devised a means to achieve this,
To feed us on His holy body and sanctified blood.
No longer then could satan ride rough shod over us. The Lord Jesus enters us as the Victor of the †.
He makes a most life fulfilling promise to us:
“ ‘As the living Father sent Me
And I draw life from the Father,
So whoever eats Me will also draw life from me’.”
John 6 v 57 TNJB
Yes, Spirit led, rejoice to be fed on holy Bread.
“ ‘I am the bread of life. No one who comes to Me will ever hunger; no one who believes in Me will ever thirst’.”
John 6 v 35 TNJB
“ ‘Do not work for food that goes bad, but work for food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you, for on Him the Father, God himself, has set His seal.”
John 6 v 27 TNJB
This is clear enough, thank You Lord Jesus. We must trust in You, the One our Father has sent us to be the Bread of Life.
We must believe in You as the Victor chosen by our Father, to banish sin and death to save us for heaven.
We must thank our Father for sending You to feed and nourish our faith celebrating this under the power of the Holy Spirit.
Our particular thanks must be expressed for the holy Eucharist whereby our faith is shared at the banqueting table and we are upbuilt.
If our faith is to stay truly alight, we must feed on Your transubstantiated body and blood Lord Jesus, that which becomes our sanctified union that God be glorified.
Your gift gives us hope, endurance and perseverance even in the face of setbacks. This is because holy love empowers us overcoming our separation by sin, our dire isolation setting us apart from God.
We come to the banqueting table led by the Spirit of love, longing to offer all praise and thanksgiving for becoming Lord Jesus, Your works in progress.
The measure of holy love is made ours in all wisdom and truth, for Yours is the way of love, a life of nothing but love.
“Dying You destroyed our death, rising You restored our life,” (Traditional Catholic Prayer) by God’s grace and our Spirit based acceptance of the good news of salvation.
We see our sin’s forgiven and forgotten, the errant past put behind us. By the Spirit, continuously You prepare us for a homeland in heaven.
But in addition, You place us within Your heavenly kingdom built upon earth, telling us: “ ‘The Father, for what He has given Me is greater than anyone’.” (John 10 v 29 TNJB)
You were given the responsibility for our salvation. “ ‘And no one can steal anything from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.” (Cont.)
How tremendous it is to learn this. May others hear Your invitation to a Spirit filled life: “ ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to Me’.”( John 7 v 37)
How well I remember that feeling and deciding I had to do something about it, so set about seeking Your Spirit. The result was, is, a true happiness in knowing, loving and serving You, Lord Jesus.
“ ‘Let anyone who believes in Me come and drink’!” ( v 38)
May all who believe in You seek to be blessed by baptism in the Holy Spirit, the Giver of true life.
Lord Jesus, as You feed us in the holy Eucharist, please fill our life with godly purpose, that of service in Your name.
I ask that many, many more of us come to believe in You as God’s gift of forgiveness, the Saviour who is the Bread of Life.
I ask too, that in believing, we all become Spirit led, rejoicing, praising and thanking our Father that we are fed on holy Bread.
“God is spirit, and those who worship must worship in spirit and truth.”
John 4 v 24 TNJB
We pray and worship, offer all praise and thanks, through You, by Your Spirit Lord Jesus.
”Through Him, with Him and in Him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honour is Yours, Almighty Father, forever and ever. Amen.”
