“Let him (her) labour, working with his (her) hands what is good, that (s)he may have something to give him (her) who has need.”
Ephesians 4 v 28
Support and encourage each other by this.
That is what the Spirit does for us.
How does He achieve this?
Through the presence of the Person of Jesus,
The living Word of God.
Thus the Spirit is sent to help us
To hurry to our aid, partly man made,
For He comes by means of each other.
In friends and even strangers,
In family members, in work colleagues,
We find the Spirit at work
To help, support, encourage and inspire us,
By their ideas, means, consolation,
Companionship, skills, talents, time,
All gifted willingly under the auspices of the Spirit.
“...that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all the riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
Colossians 2 v 2, 3
-Whether they recognise this or not -
The life changing Spirit of Jesus works with us.
A hand on the shoulder, a word in time,
An offer to help, an invitation to hospitality,
All are meant to be supportive and are.
We are never far from God, we realise
With the friendly warmth and companionship
Of those who want to support and encourage us.
Jesus is at work here, near as God with us.
Jesus asks of His Spirit,
Who in His turn comes to us to prompt,
To persuade by godly ideas.
How often have you helped another
Overcome one type of fear or another?
“For we are His (God’s) workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2 v 10
Now where does this prompt,
The kind words of reassurance really come from?
It is from the supportive, encouraging Spirit of Jesus
Who will ever steer us through the thickets of life,
The daily ups and downs
The problems that make us frown.
For the Spirit is a happy Spirit,
Sent by Jesus to watch over us,
To protect and provide for us.
Oh the goodness inherent in such love.
Give thanks for this.
Do not take it for granted.
Instead, Spirit led on our part,
Offer thanks from a grateful heart for Jesus.
“For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.”
Colossians 2 v 9, 10
Whilst at the same time realising
That one day, who knows when,
We will be called upon to be the helper,
The supporter offering encouragement through Jesus.
Remember then all who come to our aid
And how God made good the outcome.
Yes, remember and call on the Spirit of Jesus,
To help us now become the blessing of support.
Be caught up in the Spirit
And reach out through His loving presence,
Centred upon, shared by the Lord Jesus,
The God who so cares for us
He always wants to fill us by His presence,
Which is in reality the love of our Father.
What a consolation it is to know this.
How much can you help somebody today?
Pray to find your answer!
“For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established...”
Romans 1 v 12
“...that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.”
Romans 1 v 13
Lord, by Your Spirit of support and encouragement who shares with us the love of the Lord Jesus to reflect Your love for us, may we give this to each other, to impart support in a godly manner.
Grant us to do this willingly, generously wherever, whenever we see a need for support and encouragement of any kind. Let us use our time, talents, resources in this way, in the service of Jesus.
Let us give cheerfully. We are reminded if we have two tunics, to give one away to someone in need and many of us have more than ample to spare. “...(S)he who gives, with liberality,” (Romans 12 v 8) is the necessary plea.
May we use whatever we have in service of love towards each other, however seemingly humble. It may simply be our time and friendship we can offer to each other.
“There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.” ( 1 Corinthians 12 v 5) Let us realise the power then of this love motivating Spirit of Jesus, so well able to prompt and persuade us to support and encourage where we can.
Thank You for the countless times this happens, for the work of many Christian charities motivated by the call to love, to help, to support, to encourage.
May the manifestation of the Spirit wherever this is given, be for the profit of all. May the Spirit ever remind us of our call as to be Your workmanship Father, for this is a vital part of our ministry.
Lord, hear my prayer and please answer this so Your Spirit continues to inspire us as to where and when to offer all support and encouragement. Amen.
