Time to stop, to think, to plan,
Time is of the essence
Held in the hand of man.
But what so often we do not appreciate
As to why this is, what for.
Why did God dedicate time to us?
Was it for time to be a burden of care,
To worry, to hurry, God not there?
No, of course not, this makes no sense!
Recompense from mistaken ideas
Comes in taking time to pray,
Rather than filling each passing minute every day.
Pause quietly, sit, making time to think,
How to break the rhythm of fret, worry and hurry.
Why rush through each day at the quickest pace?
Why hustle and bustle so much to be done,
When in a different way the race is won.
Won by seeking friendship with Jesus.
He tells us this is the way, which is what?
He took time to stop and pray,
Seeking His Father’s will for the day.
We must too, take time to watch and pray.
Watch how life unfolds when inviting the Lord Jesus,
By the Holy Spirit, to have His say.
Time to pray, time to ponder, a special time given to wonder. Wonder in awed amazement at the beauty of life,
The autumn season is glorious for this.
Awareness of change everywhere about us,
Should help us to see what change there needs to be,
To seek God’s will for us, now at this time.
This season surrounded by golden glory so fine.
Is not the very best use of time to be praying,
Seeking the wisdom to know what You, Lord God, are saying? Praying with a listening ear, letting go of every fear.
Praying with delight for love’s gifted insight,
Helping us to set each day aright.
No more need to fret nor fuss, if time is given up to Jesus.
Our resources of body, spirit and soul, by His Spirit,
He labours well to make whole.
Prayer can accomplish what mankind cannot,
Because prayer links us to the holiness of Jesus,
His loving ways.
“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous (wo)man avails much.” (James 5 v 16)
Ideas for today now made whole, for God is at work,
With all body, spirit and soul touched by the Spirit.
The same Spirit of love who fills the Lord Jesus,
Can be for us a power untouched unless we each day,
Set aside valuable time to pray.
Pray through the Spirit to receive of the Lord Jesus,
For then You find such a love to attract us.
Love put into action, the Spirit’s propulsion,
This is the direction to be taken in Jesus,
Where friendship in love’s openness will always flourish.
Place the Lord Jesus as Master, as personal Saviour,
At the actual heart, the centre of every day.
An invited Guest, warmly welcomed to be, by the Spirit,
Our decision Maker, life Shaper, love Giver.
Jesus changes the mundane into days of discovery,
Where our Father’s love is given with His mercy.
The magnificent intention of holy love
Is always connected with life from above.
So pray to discover the day’s direction,
Never ignoring the Spirit who shapes our connection.
For what really matters, whatever the time of year,
Is to keep praying to learn how God is seen near.
The Father coming to us, through His Son the Lord Jesus, Sending too, His Holy Spirit, through whom
We who pray, identify God’s heart and purpose,
Seeing how to spread love in many a circumstance.
Not one day wasted in any way, for hope with joy
Offers blessings as and when we pray.
Listening attentively we hear the Lord God speak,
It is His wisdom we must sincerely seek.
Seek and find in our friendship with Jesus,
The Spirit active because He informs your worship.
Stop being busy, pray, wait, watch and listen,
True direction will come, a blessing from heaven.
This could well be a new way to live,
But oh, what contentment this will give!
God is good, God is most gracious, He lifts us up,
Throughout the days made precious,
As You learn to recognise His many acts of kindness.
Done through you, done through me, but only because
We chose to live prayerfully to share His goodness,
And proclaim His greatness through the Lord Jesus.
“Many, O Lord my God are the wonders You have done. The things You planned for us no-one can recount to You; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.” (Psalm 40 v 5 TNJB)
But each day, calling on Your Holy Spirit, I will seek to become empowered by the love of the Lord
Jesus.
“Hope in God! I will praise Him still, my Saviour, my God ...In the daytime God sends His faithful love, and even at night; the song it inspires in me is a prayer to my living God...” (Psalm 42 v 5, 8 TNJB)
“Why so downcast? Why all these sighs?” ( v 5)
Why worry? Why fret? Why hurry? There is no need for this when I devote my days to the Lord Jesus, by the Spirit of fruitfulness.
“Hope in God! I will praise Him still, my Saviour, my God.” (v 5 Cont) “ Send out Your light and Your truth; they shall be my guide and lead me...” (Psalm 42 v 4)
“For the King of love my Shepherd is, whose goodness faileth never. I nothing lose if I am His and He is Mine forever,” (From a hymn, source not known) my Saviour, my Deliverer, my Safekeeper.
I pray then and ask to be “Like a flourishing olive tree in the house of God, putting my trust in Your faithful love, Lord God, for ever and ever.” (based on Psalm 52 v 8 TNJB)
“I shall praise You forever for what You have done, and shall trust in Your name, so full of goodness in the presence of Your faithful.” (Psalm 52 v 9 TNJB)
“Be exalted above the heavens, Lord GOD! Your glory being over all the earth,” (based on Psalm 57 v 5)
as our faith becomes actively and effectively alive as we pray. Thank You for answering all our prayer and please keep us praying, seeking Your wisdom day by day. Amen.
