“Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.” (Psalm 97 v 11, 12)
Work together with Christ Jesus.
He is coming to earth for this purpose.
Redeemed from self-centredness by Jesus,
We are asked to be outward looking,
Praying and working for urgent causes,
The sick, the lonely, those in poverty,
Those harassed by a life ruining addiction,
Those whose life is heading in the wrong direction.
Pray to be given wisdom
As to what to do to help with this,
With stemming anxiety as to a very real difficulty.
Call on the Spirit of Christmas,
To descend upon us through Jesus,
The One born to us, not only as Saviour,
But as the finest example being supremely loving and self giving.
“Behold, He is coming with clouds and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him.” (Revelation 1 v 7)
Pray to learn how to live to give of self entirely.
Pray to prepare for the great Day,
Jesus being the heart of Christmas.
God’s Son, the Christ, the Messiah,
A Saviour come to us as Immanuel.
With God alive in us by the Spirit,
Life has to be shaped to become holy.
We need the Spirit’s influence daily
So as to make progress readily, steadily.
Come, Creator Spirit, come to us through Christ Jesus. Come, call us to adore Him, our Saviour Brother.
Come, prepare us for Christmas worship of Christ Jesus. Come, amidst our preparatory busyness, quieten us,
That we devote more time to preparing spiritually.
“The things that no eye has seen and no ear has heard, things beyond the mind of men, all that God has prepared for those who love Him. These are the very things that God has revealed to us through the Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 2 v 9, 10)
“We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” (2 Peter 3 v 13)
Lord, I imagine I am not alone in some anxiety as to being ready for Christmas, this extra busy time of year, if we are not careful, overload. I am sorry when I have been so busy about the secular arrangements that I have not prepared properly spiritually.
Too busy is too busy, no excuses! I know we always make time for what really matters to us. I feel a sense of disgrace for not putting my preparation to receive my Brother Saviour as top of the list to prepare for Christmas.
This year I can see that it does not matter, not really, if every room is not decorated and if not another mince pie is purchased. But it does matter a great deal as to whether I am ready to receive Jesus as Lord, my Saviour, or not.
Thank You that this increased awareness which I really value, is the direct gift of the Holy Spirit of wisdom. May He shape everybody’s preparation for Christmas by descending upon us firmly, clearly.
May the Holy Spirit direct our thoughts, imagination, plans, decisions, and actions, that they all be in line with Your will for us, dearest Father of love, our Christmas Benefactor, waiting to bless us.
I was given a calendar with captions suitable for married couples. Today it says ‘How wonderful it is to be loved by you.’ This would make a wonderful refrain for the birth of our Saviour, the blessings of Christmas.
The Word was made flesh for us and this is truly wondrous, love came to us in a remarkable, yet recognisable way. We will enter a season of joy, which should give rise to a time of praise and thanksgiving which is heartfelt, sincerely offered.
For the few days remaining in Advent, we pray in joyful anticipation of what is going to happen. Cause and effect which is godly, is always to our benefit, will always bless us, thank You, dearest Father.
“With gladness and with rejoicing they shall be brought; they shall enter the King’s palace.” (Psalm 45 v 15) The birth of our Saviour should take away our fear of death. “The way I see things is clear; if I live it will be for Christ, and if I die it will be to gain my heavenly inheritance in Him.” (Philippians 1 v 21 The Truth)
This is our hope of glory, the glory of the Trinity, that is. The outcome of knowing and following, committing fully to the Lord Jesus, is the blessing of receiving the Holy Spirit, that we then give witness.
All of this depends upon prayer. Lord, teach us to pray more regularly, more fervently, not just when the chips are down and we are in need of urgent help. Let us pray to work together for our Father’s glory, us in Jesus, Him in us.
This should be our life’s story, and needs to be, if we are to accomplish all that is planned for us to accomplish as disciples. May the Holy Spirit always be involved in our decisions and actions.
Let Christmas be a season of increased holiness, where through prayer, we make the time and effort to deepen, strengthen and rely upon our friendship with the Lord Jesus, without any break in communication because we have strayed.
May the holy season of Christmas be a time of renewed commitment to the life of love the Lord Jesus lives. His example is so inspiring that we can ask ‘What would Jesus do’? and be assured of not then straying.
Our freedom has to be according to Your will for our life, Father God, always built up and strengthened in support by the Holy Spirit. “You sent forth Your Spirit, we are created and You renew the face of the earth.” (based on Psalm 104 v 30)
The Lord Jesus is truth spoken to us, placed before us for consideration. But we will not receive nor understand any of this without prayer. Please send the Holy Spirit to help us to pray.
Currently we must pray to prepare for our Lord’s coming to earth. May this show our realisation that we need a Saviour and our desire to receive Him, welcoming Him warmly.
We delight in Your love Eternal Father, and You gift us Yourself in Your Son, by Your Spirit. All of this is utterly amazing, truly astonishing and most wonderful for us. For we learn to trust.
Thank You for faith. Thank You for our developing trust and dependency. Thank You for our Saviour Brother, the living hope that one day we will reach heaven. Thank You for the faith building, love enhancing, life giving Spirit of joy.
To prepare for Christmas, is to prepare to share our life openly with the Word made flesh, always looking out for, listening to and responding to the Holy Spirit. We await a truly great celebration! May we continue to prepare for Christmas prayerfully. Amen.
