Mercifully loving Father,
How I thank You that You answer whatever the pain, perplexity, difficulty surrounding me, Your answer is only a prayer or two away. Help me please in my dependency, when faced with Your silence, to pray even more fervently and wait confidently for Your answer. I will know when this comes, I will recognise Your reply by the peace this brings. The old adage says “God helps him/her who helps him/herself.” And “Try, try again.” LORD, teach me to pray, teach me to pray again and again. “Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength.” (Isaiah 40 v 31)
“ ‘Do not lead us into temptation.” (Matthew 6 v 13) The † is the remedy for all our sin that in Christ we begin anew day by day through all He does for us. As You place in our hearts a longing for Your kingdom of love, joy and peace, all the hope that You offer, belonging to Your kingdom becomes paramount. We belong in Christ. It is when we claim the victory of the †, we can say, pray with confidence, “ ‘Deliver us from the evil one’.” (Matthew 6 v 13)
“Now the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe” (Romans 3 v 22) is evidenced when we pray. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus”, (Romans 8 v 1) set free to be in Your family. “Who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit,” (Cont.) in whom Your answer is only a prayer or two away.
“For a many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons (and daughters) of God.” (Romans 8 v 14) All the problems we get into have one source, our thinking, acting, desiring and designing independently. “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven’.” (Matthew 6 v 9, 10)
“It is a life’s work to learn to live in conformity with the will of God. And what is the secret of knowing what the will of God is and the receiving of the strength to do it? It comes from a life of prayer because it is in prayer and through prayer that we become attuned, as it were, to the things of God, and when so attuned have that instinct of what it is that pleases Him and the courage to carry it out.” (Cardinal Basil Hume writing on The Fast of All Saints 1985) “ ‘Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’” (Matthew 5 v 1), only a prayer or two away.
Thank You for drawing us to Yourself through the † of Christ by the working of the Holy Spirit. “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from Your love Father, that love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord,” (based on Romans 8 v 38, 39)
and is only a prayer or two away. Amen.
