Oh how happy we can be
In a wide variety of ways,
Give praise!
Life is made cheerful
When we see anything beautiful.
Children especially are readily made happy.
Why? Because they use to the full capacity
Their vivid imagination God given to please them.
Children trust readily, search enquiringly,
And always realise their dependency.
They do not question unnecessarily,
But accept the gift of life for exactly how it is,
In spite of being inquisitive by nature,
Young children have no guile,
Do not go in for trickery as a deceit,
But only to make others find life funny.
Always actively busy, they find plenty to do
To help the body be healthy, the mind and spirit.
At night they usually rest easily,
The day well done with some fun and adult company.
Family are always, but always the most special people.
For intuitively children recognise the need for the right company.
Often lovers of animals, they can form very special bonds,
Usually gaining experience in caring.
As playful as a kitten romping,
Young children learn much through sharing,
Taking turns and giving way to the wants of others.
Stories they discover are a goldmine for the imagination,
Whilst ever thirsty factually, you cannot overload them with information. Slightly wary of the dark, boy and girls sensibly
Decide they must be cautionary,
Not venturing into unknown territory unwisely.
Pride has not any part of their daily agenda,
Except when this is rightly so,
In a task well done or a challenge met bravely,
When there should be a warm glow of satisfaction,
And maybe a sticker to show everybody else!
Children are usually quite adventurous,
For they have not yet come across any bad, sad experience,
Nor should they, if in the safe security of a loving family.
Little or maybe no thoughts of tomorrow,
Children live fully in the moment,
Making the most of every opportunity for discovery.
Oh that adults could be similarly living happily,
In the Trinity their trusting and dependency,
Seeing the Father as life’s Creator, Provider,
The Lord Jesus as life’s Re-Creator, the Healer,
The Holy Spirit as life’s Director, the Sanctifier.
Although of course, all Three have roles interchangeable, Notable, steadfastly loving, kindly and merciful,
It is the Lord God who makes life beautiful
For children and for us, being His very own family.
The true love which is manifest in the Lord Jesus,
Can touch us as readily as young happy children can.
It has been said, and is true
“When it rains look for rainbows;
When it is dark, look for stars.” (Source not known)
Basically children seem to know how to do this
Because they live trusting in life’s goodness,
People’s kindness, a wondrous world at their finger tips.
It is no different for us! Not when living prayerfully.
We see the godly outcome of our dependency:
The goodness is God’s gift, the kindness His effect upon many, This wondrous world a place of outstanding beauty
Is given us freely to enjoy day by blessed day.
For You, Lord God, are so especially good to us,
You are more than ready to forgive any faults and failings.
In Your all loving mercy You re-create us,
All of us who call upon the Holy Spirit,
Which the Lord Jesus, our Divine Healer, promises us.
When we delight in You, You gift us Yourself.
In Your holy company we become truly happy,
Joyous in fact, like so many were in childhood.
You are our burden Carrier, our Safekeeper,
Our security, confidence and reliance.
Each day You make for us to rejoice and be glad in,
Particularly as we begin once more
To be still before You, asking You to fill us
From the abundant store of heavenly happiness.
“All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations shall worship before You.” (Psalm 22 v 27) Oh that this happens for us, living in the Lord Jesus. “And I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart.” (Psalm 9 v 1)
In childhood my faith did start
So now I pray, day by day for Your continuous blessing,
To be ever addressing my family and friends.
I know for sure You will not fail me.
I give thanks to the life fulfilling Trinity.
Lord, keep us praying for the welfare of all children that they lead a truly safe and happy life. Recently I found this prayer which I find so helpful, thank You:
“You are the Creator and true Father of our children,
O my Lord! They are Yours,
it is You who gave them to us.
It is not I who made them
and gave them spirit and life.
I give them to You knowing
that they belong to You.
I submit with all my heart
to all the commands of Your will
and Your providence for them,
praying that You bless them,
blessing them in Your name.
If I dare to ask for something
for their earthly life,
I ask You to give them
neither riches nor poverty,
but only honest comfort.
My prayer will be more Christian
and will please You more
if I seek first for their sake and mine
Your Kingdom and Your Justice,
leaving it to You to give us
what pleases You.
I ask that You
impress on them a true horror of sin,
that You keep them far from evil,
protect them from the world’s corruption,
that You form them according to Your Gospel,
that You inspire them with love,
that You give them the simplicity
and sincerity of Your children,
and that You fill them with Your love.
Do not let my life betray the word of my prayer.
Let me not destroy
by bad example for my children
or bad advice or negligence
what I ask You to imbue in them.
Help me to raise them in wisdom
and awe of You,
and, adding to these graces, Lord,
help me to keep them safe,
and give them a long life
that they live well.” (Source not known)
I would add to this: Kept safe from all harm, illness and accident. May they live a life fully pleasing to You, a truly happily fulfilled life in their family and adulthood. Please keep them in employment, our grandchildren thriving well at school. May the whole family live to the praise, honour and glory of Your name.
May children reach adulthood knowing, loving and serving You well, for life in all the promised fullness of the Lord Jesus, depends upon this. Please may the Holy Spirit keep us praying in all praise and thanksgiving for the many, marvellous joys of life. Oh how happy we can be in Your company! Amen.
