Can you describe June atmospherically?
Can you portray the feel of beauty?
June is a most glorious opportunity.
This month offers us the freshness of summer.
Look again in your mind’s eye
What then do you notice about us?
Do you hear the birds singing,
High up in the trees, clothed verdantly in green?
Is the summer sun shining gently on the scene?
The air may be heavy with the scent of honeysuckle.
Freshly mown grass can perfume the air too,
As do the climbing, rambling roses sprawling,
Over every nook and cranny as they flourish upwards.
What about down below in the garden border?
Are there the twisting tendrils of sweet peas,
Delicate and very pretty, yet heady in scent?
Does the glory of the garden poppy shine
In a fine show of red, yellow, blue, pink or white?
Do you recall a full moonlit night, stars twinkling,
But only after a low sunset pink sky, high in colour?
The daylight hours linger longer happily.
The ceanothus bush of blue looked heavenly.
Sunlight stretching over the many beautiful growing blooms are found.
Inspect the iris, it is a classic feature of late spring, early summer.
Nepeta, salvia, Astrantia, aquilegia are all growing,
Their variety of full summer colour showing.
Verbascum and cirsium, the prickly thistle, are noticeably spiky,
Whilst by contrast, the peony is softly sculptured.
Lupins are tall, stately, really lovely,
Whilst on the lily pond form buds full of promise for later flower.
Carefully cut topiary is really eye catching.
The wisteria is an annual winner, ever in favour.
And delphinium, like geraniums, splash colour to any border or hanging basket,
If growing is your thing to offer much pleasure,
Then June in bloom is an undoubted treasure.
Could you not take a moment or two to review,
For if you do, to recall the charm of early summer,
Sitting quietly, prayerfully reflective
Invites us to readily offer thanks for the most glorious.
Then when you think on further, trawl deeper,
Usually you find, come to mind, matters forgotten temporarily,
Amidst the sea of feathery grasses, golden buttercups shining,
And the grasses embellishment of the dainty daisy,
Between hedges garlanded with wild roses,
Under the spreading ash, oak, bronzed beech or high elm tree,
A time most lovely could have been unfolding.
For amidst your thanksgiving for the joys of June,
You could also be asking your Father
To release yet more of His summer blessing.
June in bloom is only the season’s beginning,
Soon to be a portrait to hang in the memory.
Whatever glory does await, God has set the date
Of its gradual, careful unfolding as new treasure,
Again beyond our measure,
For God’s love cannot possibly be counted in extent,
Only one beautiful display accounted for most gratefully.
Yes, June in bloom was a tremendous treat.
Now we move forwards to meet with July,
Where silently but not secretly, God will come,
As still the flowers flourish anew.
His love offered through the rising corn
Greening, growing at break of dawn,
That the corn crop grows tall before autumn’s fall,
For the Lord, our Creator Father, is the Head over all,
His love residing, abiding as time moves onwards
Inviting our thoughts to fly upwards, til they reach heaven’s door.
Lord, June has been a most glorious first month of summer, full of colour. Thank You for Your invitation to stop, be still to admire a garden and have cause to pray. This is such a blessing for us, for to pray is to sense Your nearness, and this closeness allows us to feel Your love. What an uplift, thank You. Amen.
