“Lord God, my prayers are dead, my affections dead and my heart is dead. But You are a living God and I place myself upon You.”
William Bridge 1600-1670

“Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
Revelation 22 v 20
“ ‘I will arise and go to my Father, and will say to Him, ‘Father I have sinned against heaven and before You, and I am no longer worthy to be called Your child.”
Based on Luke 15 v 18
Lord, You are our Lord of life,
Call us to repentance, a turning away, a change of heart, a decided action to make amends. Drive us back to our Father. Remorse is a feeling, repentance a decision. Ever our sins are
before us. Call us to repentance. Grant us humility, sorrow for our wrongdoing. “Send me chastisement, but deprive me not of the power of loving You.” (Alphonsus Liquouri)
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear them from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land,” (2 Chronicles 7 v 14) our Father promises.
Forgive us, Lord. We have disregarded and dethroned You. We have walked our own wilful, self seeking way. Lawlessness prevails and lives are shattered. We fail to hear or proclaim Your word. Say very clearly to us “ ‘I tell you...unless you repent you will all likewise perish’.” (Luke13v3) We fail to follow Your commandments. We compromise Your truth. Forgive us, Lord. Let us love in You once more. Bring us back to our Father.
“In You, O Lord, I seek refuge; do not let me ever be put to shame; in Your righteousness deliver me; rescue me speedily. Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me ... Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.”
Psalm 31 v 2, 5
“O Lord, enlighten my heart, which evil desire has darkened. O Lord, help me to think about what is good.” “O Lord, forgive what I have been, sanctify what I am, and order what I shall be.” “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.”
John Chrysostom C 347-407 Source not known
In the ghastliness, life’s chaotic confusion, I hear You, Lord.
In the darkness, life’s empty tomb, I feel You, Lord.
In the emptiness, life’s barren wasteland, I see You, Lord.
In the hopelessness, life’s despairing disillusionment, I reach for You, Lord. For in Your nearness I come close to God and look up.

You are our strength and our shield. We trust in You and we are saved. We are saved from Psalm 28 our own wanton destruction. I thank You that a remnant of true faith remains. Establish and strengthen us, Lord. Call us collectively and individually to return to You. I thank You for our Christian inheritance. Call us back to our Father. Enrich us once more by Your truth. May Your way become our way of life nation by nation.
(based on v 7)
Serious is our downfall. Forgive us, Lord. We destroy ourselves and each other, being worn, torn, angry and abusive. We are destroying our culture, even our climate. Your planet is in peril. Forgive us, Lord. Look upon us with mercy. “O God, You are my God, I seek You, my soul thirsts for You; my flesh pants for You, as in a dry and weary land where there
is no water.” (Psalm 63 v 1) Thank You that You so hate our sin You gave Your life as a ransom.
You have mercy on the sinner. Come in Your mercy, cleanse, restore and renew us. We are in crisis. Forgive us, Lord. Call us back to our Father. We must heed Your word.
“God swears against the arrogance of Jacob. ‘I’m keeping track of their every last sin.’ God’s oath will shake earth’s foundations, dissolve the whole world into tears. God’s oath will sweep in like a river that rises, flooding houses and lands, and then recedes, leaving behind a sea of mud. On judgement Day, watch out! These are the words of God, my Master. I’ll turn off the sun at noon. In the middle of the day the earth will go black. I’ll turn your parties into funerals and make every song you sing a dirge. Everyone will walk around in rags, with sunken eyes and bald heads. Think of the worst that could happen – your only son, say, murdered. That’s a hint of Judgment Day– that and much more”.
Amos 8 v 7,8,9,10
“Oh yes, Judgement Day is coming! These are the words of my Master God. I’ll send a famine through the whole country. It won’t be food or water that’s lacking, but My Word. People will drift from one end of the country to the other, roam to the north, wander to the east. They’ll go anywhere, listen to anyone, hoping to hear God’s Word – but they
won’t hear it. .... Their lives will fall to pieces. They’ll never put it together again.”
Amos 8 v 11,12,14
Lord, forgive us. Forgive all the wrongs we have done to You. Forgive us and call us back to our Father.
Send Your Holy Spirit of wisdom and truth into each one of us, into our homes and workplaces, into society, into Your church. Breathe new life into us, a fresh outpouring of Your life, that we would do as You would have us do. Forgive us, Lord. Do not hold our sins against us. Bring us back to our Father. I ask this in Your name of forgiveness. Amen.
