“The Spirit of Lord Yahweh is on me for Yahweh has anointed me. He has sent me to bring the news to the afflicted, to soothe the broken-hearted.” (Isaiah 61 v 1 TNJB)
Proclaim the high
And holy name
Of Jesus the Lord, who came
All faith to reward.
For is born to Mary
A very special Baby.
The Son come
As Father God promised
In His faithful love to us.
The majestic ‘I AM’.
He shared this love,
Come to earth from above.
The title the Lord Jesus uses
Echoes God’s name.
To announce His fame
From the house of David,
This Baby born to us
Defined that First Christmas.
‘I AM’ He will declare,
True love to share
Listen, learn, yearn if you dare.
‘I AM’ the resurrection (John 11 v 25)
And the true life
Lifting believers up beyond sins’ strife.
‘I AM the way, the truth, the life,’ (John 14 v 6)
Every person’s equal,
Yet with a holy sequel.
‘I AM’ the vine, (John 15 v 5)
Making us the branches,
Taking away sin’s evil chances.
‘I AM’ the bread (John 6 v 35)
To feed our hunger,
Making faith happily linger.
‘I AM’ the light, (John 8 v 12)
In holy truth and wisdom,
Gifted for our dependence.
‘I AM’ the door (John 10 v 9)
To be opened wide
No need now for us to hide.
‘I AM’ the good Shepherd, (John 10 v 11)
Us the sheep,
In loving unity to always keep.
And the culmination
Of faith’s hopeful story
Proclaiming to us
The King of Glory.
Jesus, is God’s gift
Of loving grace,
Offering love’s kindest embrace.
Jesus gives His life for us,
The Easter †
Begins at the cradle
Of Christmas.
Jesus, the Messiah,
Yet a Saviour,
Born to us.
“To proclaim liberty to captives, release to those in prison, to proclaim a year of favour from Yahweh and a day of vengeance for our God, to comfort all who mourn.” (Isaiah 61 v 2 TNJB)
“To give to Zion’s mourners, to give them for ashes a garland, for mourning-dress, the oil of gladness, for despondency, festal attire; and they will be called ‘terebinths of saving justice’, planted by Yahweh to glorify Him.” (Isaiah 61 v 3 TNJB)
All praise be to God for His glory, the full revelation of truth as we will see in the Messiah, the King of Glory born to us as the Saviour of humanity.
We have then, a Divine Healer, coming to ever lovingly, all mercifully deal with our brokenness, stem our sense of helpless hopelessness.
We delight in our safe security as “The way of the wicked You turn upside down.” (based on v 9) “The LORD shall reign forever – Your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD!” (v 10)
You promise us love, mercy, forgiveness, grace, favour, help, healing, hope, peace and eternal joy. All of this is available to us in Jesus, the Word of Life who tells us ‘I AM’.
This speaks of the present tense, not something long ago, forsaken and forgotten, abandoned, not knowing the forgiveness offered in Christ Jesus, Your promise of new life to us and the hope, peace and joy this gifts us.
This is a work of Your Spirit, it cannot be conjured up by us. “I would have lost heart unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” (Psalm 27 v 13)
Let us rejoice this Christmas because we trust in Your healing love and mercy, anxious for nothing at all because we will keep praying, praising and offering You all our thanks.
“Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is King of all the earth! Sing praises with understanding. God reigns over the nations.” (Psalm 47 v 6, 7, 8)
Let us ever glorify You with thanksgiving for Your incredible grace and mercy always helping, healing and blessing us, by the Lord Jesus, through the love of the Holy Spirit, ever active.
May this season of Advent make a real difference to our faith as we repent of our shortcomings, firmly resolved to do better, to try harder to live a good and godly life every day, not just when it suits us. “Let Your salvation, O God, set us up on high.” (Psalm 69 v 29, the singular invocation changed to plural) Your everlasting mercy is upon us.
Good and gracious is God, we glimpse Your glory, taste Your peace, enjoy Your presence and live in hope, all because of the truth You reveal to us in the Word, who says ‘I AM’, not ‘I was’ or ‘I might be’.
Jesus is our defence against the enemy prowling about, waiting to pounce on any helpless victim. Please protect and safeguard us, through the Spirit teaching us to see that evil is truly evil and must be combatted spiritually.
The Lord Jesus is our Shepherd, therefore we lack nothing in the pursuit and promotion of holiness. Thank You for this mercy, such a power of holy love, so successful when full of the Holy Spirit.
May the Holy Spirit so strengthen our faith, nothing will separate us from Your love gifted us in the life, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. It is in the Light of this love, which is Your love, which is the Holy Spirit’s love, we come to recognise and respond to love’s call.
“For the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your feet from being caught.” (Proverbs 3 v 26)
for Christ Jesus who lives in us, is stronger and more powerful by far, than he, satan who lives in the world. Thank You for our confidence.
Lord God, our hope and rejoicing, our faith and our prayer, please keep us praying at all times, attentive to the needs of the world. May we make a good spiritual preparation for Christmas.
Dearest Father, You show us such faithfulness in Your love and mercy made known by the Word made flesh, to heal us of our sinfulness if we will accept this.
“The truly humble, those who are poor in spirit, are blessed, because the Kingdom of heaven is given to them,” (Matthew 5 v 3 The Truth) directly by the godly life of Christ Jesus.
Thank You that He shows us the way to live and the truth to live by which will delight and honour You, dearest Father. We are profoundly blessed by this revelation.
May we always find the strength and resolve to serve You well because we look to Jesus and listen to the Holy Spirit so as to gain inspiration and make the right decisions.
“Even those who are persecuted for doing what is right are blessed, because the Kingdom of heaven is given them.” (Matthew 5 v 10 The Truth) May we in faith, cling to Jesus’ teaching.
Thank You that He is the living Word of hope, the fulfilment of Your every promise to us, Father God. Thank You that when risen and ascended, upon His return to heaven, Jesus sent us the life enhancing Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit reveals the emptiness of our worldliness, depending upon its false promises to deliver happiness. At best this is only fleeting and is of no eternal value at all. We grow to see our need of a Saviour.
That Saviour is born to us as a Brother, so we can recognise Him and respond to Him, thank You. Father God. Your Son is new life to us, a blessed life of holiness.
No longer are position and possession so important to us. What matters is receiving, living by and spreading the best news ever of our Saviour Healer, born to us out of Your all loving mercy.
We are called to become a new creation by the incredible, almighty, life giving voice of Jesus, the eternal ‘I AM’ of Your loving self-giving personality, Eternal Father.
In joyful anticipation we spend the days of Advent watching and waiting, hoping and believing, sorrowing for sin, yet rejoicing in our healing.
“The humble shall also increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice.” (Isaiah 29 v 19) May the Holy Spirit grace us with humility to own our need of Christ Jesus, come to us as Saviour although a Brother.
Jesus, by the Spirit, opens up, holds safe and develops our faith, our trust and our dependence upon Your mercy, Father. For Jesus does as He desires. He is our happiness because He is our holiness.
“Happy is (s)he who has the God of Jacob for his (her) help, whose hope is in the LORD his (her) God” (Psalm 146 v 5) for all our help comes from You, such is the mercy of Your love for us.
You are the Trinity “Who keeps truth forever, who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry ...gives freedom to the prisoners...opens the eyes of the blind...raises those who are bowed down” (v 6, 7, 8) all because You make us righteous in Christ Jesus. Be especially present to the weary and weak, those captive to any form of vice, all who are militant against our Christian standards, frail and fearful, in pain or suffering hurt, for our deliverance is assured in Christ Jesus.
He, the great ‘I AM’ will overcome all that is evil in and amongst us as long as we keep praying, seeking all the vital help and healing offered us out of Your love and mercy, Your steadfast kindness and faithfulness.
“Rise up, O Judge of the earth...LORD, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph? They utter speech and speak insolent things.” (Psalm 94 v 3, 4) I am sorry, Lord.
“They break in pieces Your people, O LORD and afflict Your heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger and murder the fatherless.” (v 6) The world without the effect of the Lord Jesus, is in a sad and sorry state.
We need to draw life from the Word everlasting, looking up to the Prince of Peace, who will reign as the King of Glory, over us, amongst us, powerful in the love of the Holy Spirit.
“Blessed is the (wo)man whom You instruct, O LORD, and teach out of Your law, that You may give us rest from the days of adversity until the pit is dug for the wicked,” (Psalm 93 v 12, 13) or better still, they learn of Jesus.
The supreme ‘I am’ is Your loving plan to be delighted in, relied upon, adhered to, venerated, obeyed, “For Your merciful kindness is great towards us and the truth of the LORD endures forever,” (based on Psalm 117 v 2) according to the life of our Saviour.
Praise ever be to the glory of the Trinity when our life is well ordered as we cherish Your love for us and rejoice in our salvation. All thanks too, for we trust in Your goodness leading us forwards to the endless joy of heaven. Amen.
