“...God our Saviour, desires all (wo)men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2 v 3, 4)
How wondrous is the †.
How marvellous God’s love for us, allowing the †.
How amazingly far reaching in results
Is the purifying, sanctifying † of Christ Jesus.
An instrument of torture for Him,
Paying the penalty of our sinfulness,
Yet a spear head of healing for us.
How incredible is this, His love for us.
The Father knew of the love Jesus has for us,
Its power, its strength, its enormity,
As our Brother loves us totally.
“ ‘I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me’.” (John 14 v 16)
The Lord God knew the love Jesus held for Him,
Therefore was able to make the punishment fit the crime,
For He knew the Lord Jesus would not fail in this.
He is the propitiation for all human failings.
The divine Blood is shed for our redemption
In a way most miraculous for our Father decreed this.
What a strange misfortune that brings us closer to God!
Pure love alone, the love of Jesus, the Divine Healer.
Only this amazing mercy could heal us of sinfulness.
Can you see then that each cross is tailor made?
“God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).” (Ephesians 2 v 4, 5)
When we have to carry our own Cross
In order to share life fully with Christ Jesus,
This cross is personalised to be not too heavy.
Our Father well knows what we can manage,
Just as He knew the Lord Jesus could, would
And did live and die entirely for us.
Our salvation required the Lord Jesus’ full loving co-operation,
Now it is up to us to co-operate similarly,
Doing what the Lord God calls us to do,
Becoming what the wisdom of God asks us to be.
So what exactly should we do?
“Do not forget My law, but let your heart keep My commands; for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you.” (Proverbs 3 v 1, 2)
We must abandon ourselves entirely
To the Father’s mercy as shown, made known in Jesus.
We must align our life with that of our Saviour,
Who will walk alongside us as closely as possible,
If we but allow this and prayerfully request His involvement. Jesus never comes to us as an uninvited Guest.
We must pray to His tender, all loving heart,
Calling upon the Spirit to enable this,
Putting the thoughts and words of prayerful supplication,
Of petition and intercession into our hearts.
“ ‘It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life’.” (John 6 v 63)
Impressing these firmly upon our mind, will and conscience We seek to live by the all loving heart of Jesus,
That sacred heart overflowing with love for humanity.
We seek God’s glory in this way as we pray.
We must take up our Cross daily,
Follow the Lord Jesus closely, listen to the Spirit avidly,
Not only asking of the power of holy love,
But offering our warmest, highest thanksgiving for this. Whatever trials and tribulations confront us,
The Lord Jesus, the Christ, will be our Divine Healer.
“As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.” (Colossians 2 v 6, 7)
He has the final victory, praise be!
His life given up for us on the †,
An intention fully pleasing to our Father,
Here is the sacrifice establishing reconciliation,
Which in turn, results in our full salvation.
All glory be to the ever merciful Trinity.
Yes, truly wondrous is the † of Jesus at Calvary.
“Once made perfect He became the source of eternal salvation
For all who obey Him” (Hebrews 5 v 9) and look on Jesus as Saviour, Lord, Word and Master.
“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (1 Timothy 2 v 5, 6)
“God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect...You have also given me the shield of Your salvation.” (2 Samuel 22 v 35, 36)
O Lord, where would we be without the Lord Jesus having accepted the †on our behalf? I do not like to think through the answer, for it is so terrifying.
But You are a God of mercy, that is very clear, made plain to us by the life and words, death and resurrection of our Saviour Brother.
The Lord Jesus tells us “ ‘If anyone loves Me, (s)he will keep My word, and My Father will love him (her) and We will come to him (her) and make our home with him (her).” (John 14 v 23)
Thank You for this, oh so comforting and reassuring promise in the face of a world hostile to Christianity in a large part and indifferent as well.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,” (2 Corinthians 1 v 3) which You are, dearest Father. Yu do not leave us to struggle alone.
“ ‘I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you’,” (John 14 v 18) the Lord Jesus promises us, knowing He will send us His faith building Spirit to safeguard and guide us in all things.
The Lord Jesus did not die in vain, but to justify our position as His brothers and sisters, works in progress, bound for heaven. As we have already received our victorious Brother as our Saviour, Your living Word, Lord God, I praise and thank You for the † whilst asking that we live through the Master.
“In Christ we have been given the fullness of His life. And He is supreme above every power and authority.” (based on Colossians 2 v 10) What a victory the Lord Jesus won at the †of redemption.
Our old sinful nature is to be erased as we are baptised. Then it follows that we have been raised to new life with “Him, through believing in Your power.” (based on v 12) This gifts us life eternal as sin is the cause of death and sin has been dealt with.
The † means new life to us, the life we live through the Lord Jesus, in receipt of the Holy Spirit who grants us wisdom. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path,” (Psalm 119 v 103) all believers can proclaim when they live through Jesus.
“You Yourself have taught me,” (v 102) this I know and I am so grateful for the insight given as to the extent of the victory the Lord Jesus has won for us. How wondrous is the †, truly wondrous.
We are taught to understand and appreciate the ways of holiness and to hate sin for what it is and its deadly results. May the Spirit ever affirm our efforts to live a godly life.
We are in receipt of such love! May this love empower all our efforts to live through loving each other so as to honour the efforts of our Saviour Brother and delight You, Father of mercies. Thank You for the enabling Spirit.
May the Spirit of love strengthen us to carry our own †whatever its weight or shape. May He help us to pray so as to gain all the help we need from our Saviour Brother.
It seems the work of salvation although completed at the †, in some aspects is ongoing, being a purifying process we need to actively and willingly partake in, by aligning our life to that of Jesus.
Willingly, reverently, uncomplainingly He obeyed Your will, Father God. Oh that we could do similarly, then the kingdom on earth the Lord Jesus came to establish, this would flourish.
As Jesus never comes to us as an uninvited Guest, may the Spirit ever remind us how vital it is to pray. ‘We are too busy’ we may claim. But clearly that is nonsense when we make leisure time for all types of pursuits.
Forgive our lack lustre attitude towards prayer. May praying become second nature to us, as essential as fresh air and food. Let us call upon the Spirit of love to aid, shape and deepen our prayer life.
May our prayer offered in all sincerity, take us into the sacred heart of our Saviour, so we live as intended, able to bring glory to You, holy Father.
I see this as essential because of the merciful way in which You look upon us, allowing forgiveness to recall us to Your favour.
“ ‘I will betroth you to Me forever; yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in loving kindness and mercy. I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know the LORD.” (Hosea 2 v 19, 20)
This promise is fulfilled, as are all Your promises, by the Lord Jesus at the †of our redemption. We are saved from hell’s damnation. How wondrous is the †! Ever we will praise You, our friendship secured by Jesus, in the Holy Spirit. Amen.
