“ ‘Lord, teach me to pray’.” (Luke 11 v 1 personalised)
I surrender to the Sender of love and mercy.
I admit I need to submit to the Trinity.
I long to do this really fully.
I must then pray, pray and pray once more
To increase my awareness of holiness and its demands.
I need to know its demands and requests.
I must honour these by living in Jesus entirely,
He who sends His own Spirit for this very purpose.
I start then by offering thanks to the Holy Spirit,
Without whose impact and influence problems become serious.
“They cried to You, and were delivered; they trusted in You and were not ashamed.” (Psalm 22 v 5)
I am lost to the invitation of Christ Jesus,
He who is the fullness of holiness, if I do not pray.
I have to empty out of myself,
Not an easy task, but a very worthwhile process.
I have to open the door of my soul
As a whole, no parts hidden away, as I pray.
I seek to live according to Jesus’ example,
And therefore need the Holy Spirit’s influence.
May His impact reveal to me
That which was not known previously.
“Grace has been shown to us because of His (God’s) kindness towards us, expressed in all Christ Jesus has done for us.” (Ephesians 2 v 7 The Truth)
Not known, when I was wrapped up in worldly matters.
Let the Spirit reveal Your total truth
And the ultimate goodness we can develop through Jesus.
His life was dutiful, really beautiful,
Dedicated to serving in love’s entirety.
How can this be in me, so self occupied?
I need the Spirit of love to strengthen me,
To devote me to efforts to become more worthy.
Living like Jesus, conformed to His image as the focus.
Act in me, Holy Spirit to guard and guide me.
“Open my eyes that I may see wondrous things from Your law... My soul breaks with longing for Your judgment at all times.” (Psalm 119 v 18, 20)
Breathe on me that all my thoughts are holy.
Teach me willing submission with permission to hope,
That as I dethrone myself from the heart,
This is the start of something good,
Worthy of me being called a Christian,
Somebody who knows the Lord Jesus is in them
And me in Him is to begin again.
The living God of love, the Word of life coming to me,
Is such an honour, a gift, a privilege,
I can lift my thoughts homewards, heavenwards.
“Who can understand his (her) errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me,...” (Psalm 19 v 12, 13)
In all praise and thanksgiving of appreciation for living His way,
I must pray in the new way I am taught by Jesus
The way the Holy Spirit directs me towards!
I ask that the reward is in knowing, seeing
That I do Your will entirely, Father God,
Bringing an offering of service devoted to Jesus,
Enabled to worship in the beauty of holiness,
Rejoicing as my spirit hungers for this, so seeks,
My entire being consumed by the love of Jesus.
“Who is (s)he who overcomes the world, but (s)he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5 v 5)
May this make my life to be led in humility,
Seeking sincerely, faith steadfast and enduring in the face of difficulty,
Each deed I do being in praise of You,
Lord God, Son of God, and Spirit of God.
My life meant to be one of unity with You as the Trinity.
Oh what beauty! My duty is to learn to love fully.
I surrender to the Sender of love and mercy.
I admit I need to submit to the Trinity,
Longing to do this really fully, please help me to pray.
“Everyone who truly believes that God is the Christ, God’s Son, has received the birth that comes from God - He is your Father. So if you love Him, you will love His children as well.” (1 John 5 v 1 The Truth)
“You see, this is true love: not that we have loved God, but that He has demonstrated His love for us by sending His Son to be the sacrifice offered on the cross, to bring us back to unity with God through forgiveness of all our sins.” (1 John 4 v 19)
Oh Lord, this is where my faith starts, with forgiveness and the peace we know thereby. “I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety,” (Psalm 4 v 8) thank You.
I believe that Jesus is my Saviour Brother, so I pray in His name that my joy in faith may be full. Thank You that this is happening day by day as we pray. For prayer and faith are all about love.
Life is about love. You say to us “Let us outdo each other in being helpful and kind to each other and in doing good.” (Hebrews 10 v 24 TLB). Lord, I need Your help with this. I need the Spirit of love who fills the Lord Jesus.
The confidence we have, the hope which is ours, the trust we cling on to because we know the Lord Jesus fulfils Your every promise to us, means we must pray to thank You for Your enduring love.
This love makes us precious in Your sight, and we rejoice in the fact that Your sovereign authority means You can readily accomplish all You intend. I must acknowledge this.
“Oh, satisfy me early with Your mercy, that I may rejoice and be glad all my days” (Psalm 90 v 14 personalised) lived in love’s presence in the Lord Jesus, as accomplished by the industrious Spirt, ever striving for me.
“Make me glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, the years in which we have seen evil.” (based on Psalm 90 v 15) Please do not recall the sins of my youth, the days before I met with my Saviour Brother.
“Let Your work appear to me,” (Psalm 90 v 16 personalised) that I may be a part of this which is worthy, resulting in Your glory being evident through the love we develop to live by, to offer in the name of Jesus.
“Let Your beauty Lord God, be upon me” as I try to live it for Your glory. “And establish the work of my hands, yes establish the work of my hands.” (Psalm 90 v 17 personalised)
I ask to live long enough to complete the work which I believe You have laid upon me. May I portray Your glory of love and the beauty of this world as best I can. Please gift me something worthwhile to say each day.
May the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit ever guide my way through life, freeing me from sin, helping me to overcome my entrenched pattern of faults which impair my relationship with You, dearest Father.
“I will say of You, LORD, ‘You are my refuge and my fortress; my God, in You I will trust,” (Psalm 91 v 2) safely abiding within Your love and mercy for You are almighty, the all powerful One God in Three Persons.
I cannot really understand this, but I do believe in the Trinity, and that all believers in the Lord Jesus are blessed by this to call on Your Spirit and turn to You as our Father. You are a Trinity who love us dearly and for this truth I offer all praise and thanks.
Thank You that the holiness of the Lord Jesus, such an inspiration to us, shines the light of Your presence upon me as I ask for an infilling of Your Spirit of faith, such an invaluable experience.
As I encounter any One of the Three Persons of the Trinity individually, or You together in love’s perfect unity, I know I am richly blessed, thank You. You gift me a new vision of Your love and thereby shape my decision to love.
Holy love put into action is a decision which overcomes fear, anxiety, doubt, even despair, for Your love is the repair of any fractured life. How often You have helped and healed me, thank You.
Not only do I experience the benefits of Your grace and favour, I delight in the freedom to worship and offer back to You the love I am so blessed to receive from You, especially in the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
I have a Father Redeemer, a Brother who is Saviour and the Holy Spirit who is Sanctifier. How fully I am blessed to know this, not just as heard knowledge, but an experience of the heart, an encounter with true love. How fully You cherish us as family.
You totally transform life for us, always for the better, the richer in meaning and daily purpose and the completed fullness we look forwards to when this life and our work is done. In Your mercy dearest Father, grant us all safe lodging, complete peace and the total fullness of joy in the company of the Trinity.
The love of the Lord Jesus experienced is the way to ensure this. Let His love flourish in us, in me, as I attempt to live according to the guiding and correcting, all loving hand of the Spirit, such a life transforming power.
No more heaviness of soul, I hope. No more fear for the future, for I am sure the Lord Jesus accompanies me and asks me to lean upon Him confidently, that together by the Spirit, we overcome anything that is a challenge to wellbeing.
Thank You that the Holy Spirit is always at work, opening up my heart, mind, will and conscience so the Lord Jesus can enter and dwell within me. What an honour and the highest privilege it is for this to happen in the Holy Eucharist.
Oh to have that level of faith which moves mountains of opposition, difficulty, dilemma, distress, all because we have learned to pray in the highest, most exalted name of the Lord Jesus, the Saviour of the world. This is not imaginary, but reality.
Jesus is my Lord, my life, my King, my everything! I ask for the gift of a faith which realises and appreciates the reality of Your presence means nothing godly will be impossible for me. May the Spirit help me to be entirely Yours. Amen.
