“Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths.”
Psalm 25 v 4
Fellowship with You is worship, Lord,
For as we imbue Your values,
The graced blessings accrue clearly.
We cannot do as You ask us to
Unless we come into the closeness of friendship,
For how else will we listen to You?
You need our respect, reverence, deference,
So we need to be in an ongoing conversation,
That diversion from our own way of thinking and doing
Is established and maintained because we have been praying.
“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul”.
Psalm 19 v 7
Along with our praying must come obeying,
For in obedience is the willing submission, permission, humility,
And humility is our ability to see our life changed,
Possibly radically in very, many a way.
To pray is to become open to the holy,
Entirely a matter of choice and co-operation.
Willingly we must listen to the Spirit’s voice
Decide to follow then abide by our decision,
However challenging this might be in giving over to holy authority.
Graced blessings will be the result when we do,
For through You, Lord Jesus, our life is made worthy
Entirely worthy in the eyes of our Father.
“I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”
Psalm 84 v 10
“O LORD, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup, You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a good inheritance.”
Psalm 16 v 5, 6
“I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel: my heart also instructs me in the night” ( Psalm 16 v 7) for often prayer comes more easily in the separate silence. “Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day,” (Psalm 25 v 5) that I may learn to listen and listen to learn more. Lord Jesus, in all faith matters we need to discover You. It is Your Spirit who grants us a greater understanding and appreciation of our Father. Such graced blessings are available through Your wisdom and truth. Continued protection and guidance come through You, thank You.
Lord, increase please the effectiveness of our faith in our willingness to listen and learn. Then You will guide us in our intentions and actions, protecting us from the error of our own ways. May love of our Father be placed through You and be at the heart of all we purpose to do. Graced blessings accrue through You! May we respond faithfully and joyfully to You in our daily conversation in prayer.
Lord Jesus, lead us in Your righteousness and make Your way plain before our face. As we talk together we will find the truth of our Father’s will for us, His plan of holiness for each human life. May Your thoughts take deep root in our heart to make us worthy of service in a way that will be pleasing to our Father. Rootedness in You brings forth a harvest of love, made richer the more we pray and ask to obey “ ‘I am the vine and you are the branches. (S)he who bides in Me, and I in him (or her), bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing’.” ( John 15 v 5) Lord, make our life one continuous conversation with You, that we are enabled to keep in touch with Your Spirit. “Good and upright is the LORD; therefore He teaches sinners in the way,” ( Psalm 25 v 8) the way of holiness as we come in prayer to access Your way of thinking and doing.
Lord, keep us attentive to prayer and through prayer. As often as You talk to us, may we listen being prepared to let go of our own ways. “The humble He guides in justice and the humble He teaches His way.”
(Psalm 25 v9) Oh how we need to pray!
“All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.” (Psalm 25 v 10) Lord, as often as is necessary lead us to repentance to clear the way forward. I
am sorry when I have a firm resolve in this, but still falter. “For Your name’s sake, O LORD, pardon my iniquity, for it is great.” ( v 11) Every failure to obey is such a mistake. “Who is the (wo)man that reverences the LORD? Him (or her) shall He teach in the way He chooses.” (v 12)
“The secret of the LORD is with those who reverence Him, and He will show them His covenant,” (Psalm 25 v 14) the promise of love, of mercy, the kindness of forgiveness, those graced blessings spelled out through You Lord Jesus. You clear the path forwards for us. The church has a blessed future as long as we spend quality and quantity time in prayer to You, through You and with You.
“My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for He shall pluck my feet out of the net. Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me...Forgive all my sins...keep my soul, and deliver me; let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You. Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait on You,” ( Psalm 25 v 15, 16, 18, 20, 21) holy Son of the Father. By Your Spirit You are the correct One to teach us. “The testimony of the LORD is sure making wise the simple,” (Psalm 19 v 7
) those with the humility to listen and learn.
Thank You that “The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.” (Psalm 19 v 8) Help us please to transfer the implication of Your teaching and our learning into our everyday life. “The reverence of the LORD is
clean, enduring forever; the judgements of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.” (v 9) Come Holy Spirit, enable us to follow this. “More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward.” (
v 11)
Lord, do not let us take matters into our own hands. Graced blessings can only come as and when we lead life through You, drawing close, as close as possible to our Father, through You by the guiding of Your Holy Spirit. It is too easy to get things wrong! “Who can understand
his (or her) errors?” ( Psalm 19 v 12) Come Holy Spirit, show us. “Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins,” (
V 13) thinking we know best how to conduct our life. “Let them not have dominion over me,” I can get distracted from all You say to me all too easily.
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer,” ( Psalm 19 v 14) as I seek to pray and obey. When it is said ‘We live and learn’, I would add we need to pray and learn ever mindful of our need of
Your all loving help and guidance. May all of life be lived according to Your plan and purpose of holiness.
Lord, may Your words of love and life be advanced within Your body upon earth, Your church, that the Trinity be glorified. Take away please, any hardness of heart which makes us unreceptive. Teach us more about the power of prayer over all things that we then see things from Your perspective. Bless and reward our efforts. May we ever serve You with love and thoughtfulness. Increase our desire to live a sanctified life. For all those whose days are lived amidst chaos and conflict, grant them the everlasting encouragement of good hope through the graced blessings. Direct our hearts and minds toward You, Lord Jesus. Make us one with You.
Help us please to follow Your priorities and order in all things pertaining to life and godliness. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” (
2 Corinthians 10 v 4, 5)
Make our hearing attentive that we respond and reply with compliant submission and willing assent and full agreement to do whatever it is You ask of us.
Lord, You have undone the work of the devil in Your suffering, dying and rising to draw us into the new life You offer us. Pray our prayer leads to conversion especially through our knowledge of Your forgiveness of our sinfulness. Free us please, from every darkness in our life. Keep us alert and active in faith. “It is not against human enemies we have to struggle, but against the Sovereignties and the Powers who originate the darkness in this world, the spiritual army of evil in the heavens.” (Ephesians 6 v 12)
So what is Your advice to us? “Stand your ground, with truth buckled around your waist, and integrity for a breast plate, wearing for shoes on your feet the eagerness to spread the gospel of peace, above all taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying always with all prayer and supplication to the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all of God’s family.” (Ephesians 6 v 14, 15, 16) Come Holy Spirit, enable us please to follow His best advice.
“The LORD has done great things for us and we are glad,” ( Psalm 126 v 3) as often as we pray and see the graced blessings come about, sometimes even after very serious and continuous prayer. Our conversion seems to be a long, difficult, arduous and often hazardous process. Lord, keep us faithful, trusting and dependent. “Blessed be the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle – my loving kindness and my fortress, my high tower and my deliverer, my shield and the One in whom I take refuge.” (
Psalm 144 v 1, 2) Lord keep us prayerful and faithful to all Your Spirit will teach us, then the world will be filled with the glory of God in our conversation and conversion as we awaken to God’s word and respond gratefully, obediently. Amen.
