“But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour for humanity were revealed, it was not because of any upright actions we had done ourselves; it was for no reason except His own faithful love that He saved us, by means of the cleansing water of rebirth and renewal in the Holy Spirit which He has so generously poured over us through Jesus Christ our Saviour; so that, justified by His grace, we should become heirs in hope of eternal life. This is doctrine that you can rely on.” (Titus 3 v 4-8 TNJB)
The thought, intent God will have sent
Has to be essentially holy.
For all that is of God is of course, godly!
He designed us, redesigned us through Jesus, then
Our Father re-defined us in the Spirit.
What merit we find in this Trinity, the holy Three
Of such good and holy ability and creativity.
God’s intention is for us to more than merely mention Jesus.
We have to keep Him uppermost in heart,
On our mind and in our will and conscience.
“Clearly we have strayed from the way of truth; the light of justice has not shone for us, the sun has not risen for us.” (Wisdom 5 v 6 TNJB)
Then time and time and time again
The Spirit will re-define us,
Re-align us with our Father’s will in Jesus,
That good and holy will, such mercy,
For this is what is the very best for us.
Our aspirations, dedications gradually change
To become more worthy, being more holy.
Other failings continue to be mercifully dealt with Through Jesus and forgiven as the Spirit works with us. Happiness grows in this way as we pray,
Seeking to know, love, follow, obey Jesus in more and more ways.
“For the errors of the simple lead to their death, the complacency of fools works their own ruin; but whoever listens to me (Wisdom speaks a warning to the heedless) may live secure, will have quiet, fearing no mischance.” (Proverbs 1 v 32, 33 TNJB)
The light of love is tremendous,
For the Lord our God is so kind to us.
Never, ever giving up on us, in spite of our shortcomings. He gifts us this season of Advent
As a time of special blessing.
A time to be addressing our faults and failings.
This time is to be marked by extra vigilance
Over our heart, mind, will and conscience.
How else can we find a readiness
To receive the infant Jesus, God’s own Son?
“A shoot will spring from the stock of Jesse, a new shoot shall grow from his roots. On Him will rest the Spirit of Yahweh, the spirit of wisdom and insight, the spirit of counsel and power, the spirit of knowledge and fear of Yahweh: his inspiration will lie in fearing Yahweh.” (Isaiah 11 v 1, 2, 3 TNJB)
We must make ready by perseverance now,
That after the incarnation forever onwards
Our attention is fixed on our Saviour Brother.
In Christ Jesus we see the holiness
Which is exactly what God asks of us.
We need purity, a total morality,
An innocence and childlikeness restored to us.
The birth of Christ Jesus that first Christmas,
Is the promise of our Spiritual rebirth.
How truly wondrous is this,
As is the Lord Jesus’ later promise:
“ ‘...I am with you always, even to the end of the age’.” (Matthew 28 v 20)
“Be pleased, God, to rescue me, Yahweh, come quickly and help me! Shame and dismay to those who seek my life! Back with them! Let them be humiliated who delight in my misfortunes.” (Psalm 70 v 1, 2 TNJB)
“In You, Yahweh, I take refuge, I shall never be put to shame. In Your saving justice rescue me, deliver me, listen to me and save me. Be a sheltering rock for me, always accessible; You have determined to save me, for You are my rock, my fortress.” (Psalm 71 v 1, 2 3 TNJB)
O Lord, when we pray asking You to send out Your light and Your truth, as in a plea made in the psalm, (43 v 3 TNJB), we are actually asking for the Lord Jesus to come to us. Thank You, for this is the best we can do.
For in this way we learn of holiness, for this will “Lead me to Your holy mountain, to the place where You dwell. Then I shall go to the altar of God, to the God of my joy.” (Psalm 43 v 3, 4 TNJB) How wonderful!
May many, many more come to believe in this Royal Baby, Son of God, Son of Mary, born to us at Christmas that we are held safely in the almighty power of holy love.
This is our safeguarding from satan, a speciality of the work of the Holy Spirit that Jesus will send to us to gift us wisdom as to how to live a holy life.
Love being fragile, even when holy, we need the Spirit’s guidance and assistance to do what we cannot or will not do alone. Let us call on the Spirit, a fine favour for us, to prepare us properly for Christmas.
Christmas is the season of contentment, but this does not just happen by chance! So let us Spirit led prayerfully, make ready to be more loving, keep hope uppermost and live by faith’s principles, for all of this is a part of what our Lord and Master can accomplish.
Christmas, we prepare for the season of happiness. Let us banish fear, gloom, despondency, apathy, disillusionment, any spirit of discontent. Let us do this now in readiness, for we have to see the dawn of the great day having made fully ready in heart and mind.
With Christ Jesus to Shepherd us, we lack nothing good for our spiritual, emotional, physical and relational well being. Come, Holy Spirit of Advent and please help us to make careful preparation to receive the Lord Jesus.
May we strive to forego all manner of selfishness, the root of all that is evil, and the destruction of any likeness to the ever loving likeness of the Lord Jesus.
Lord, merciful Father, please forgive all we have marred, stained, dishonoured, destroyed, all because we disobey You. I am sorry for anything within myself that has fallen into neglect and impaired my relationship with the Trinity.
Please may the Spirit help all of us to strive harder to live a better life all through Advent, on into the season of Christmas, that such a way of life becomes a part and parcel of daily life. Amen.
