“Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90 v 12)
To be Spirit sensitive
Is to be alert to the Lord Jesus, the Christ.
To be alert to the Messiah,
Is to recognise Him as Saviour.
To be touched by the Spirit,
Is to believe the truth of Christ Jesus,
To know Him as God’s Son the Holy One,
Full of wisdom and truth.
For this to happen we must be not just initially
But continuously, daily, Spirit responsive.
We pray. We praise. We listen. We learn.
We study the sacred Scriptures prayerfully.
We apply these to us personally,
Pondering, wondering ‘What is God saying to me?
What is He saying directly to me?
Is He calling me to do something specific for God’s family?’
“The charity which burned in the household at Nazareth should be an inspiration for every family.” (St John XXIII)
This is not idealistic, but faith’s reality,
A most wonderful opportunity of godly guidance.
Is our life changed by God’s presence in Christ Jesus?
If not, why not? What is the blockage?
Time is God given, a gift from heaven.
Our task is to be Spirit led, like Jesus was,
To know and show fruitful service,
Productivity in love readily, freely given.
Spirit led is to be fed on the loving life of Christ Jesus, Enabled to share this to the fullest degree.
This is what changes for the better socially,
Relationally, even economically as prosperity is shared.
The Spirit’s inspiration always points towards holiness,
To developing a better likeness to Christ Jesus,
This is the very best use of gifted time.
What better way to enter the New Year
Than with this truth on our heart and mind:
“Let us especially regret the smallest amount of time that we waste or fail to use in loving God.” (St John of the Cross)
“He who plants kindness gathers love.” (St Basil the Great)
Dearest Father, as we have just entered this New Year, Your Spirit who directs our holiness, is ever beside us in the Lord Jesus’ incredible love for us. Thank You for this support.
The Holy Spirit is such an Evangelist! “For you are all sons (daughters) of God, through faith in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3 v 26) We need holiness, the result of adhering to Jesus, Him living in us by the power of the Holy Spirit, make this a time of hope.
This Christmas Season, Your time, Lord God, as is all time, but now is particularly blessed by the Lord Jesus being introduced to us. Blessed be the one God as a Trinity in all believers, within us to work through us.
You call us to love others and serve just as the Lord Jesus does. He is fully filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit of love. May we be too. We hope in the gracious gift of Jesus’ love for us, freeing us from satan’s bondage.
The Lord Jesus, as love incarnate has to live through us being filled by the Holy Spirit, the life Enhancer, the life Giver, showing us each day is the day You make Lord God, and we should rejoice and be glad in it.
We are Jesus’ good works in progress, all thanks to the Holy Spirit of faith and prayer, our Advocate and Paraclete, our Faith Builder enabling us to cherish the grace of holy love and mercy, the very real difference this makes to life.
May the Holy Spirit help us to love others as an act of obedient faith, an active faith which sows the blessings we hope to reap and benefit by, knowing the harvest will come.
“(S)he who sows obedience to the Spirit will reap what the Spirit gives: eternal life. So let us never be discouraged from doing what is good, for in due course we shall reap abundantly if we persevere.” (Galatians 6 v 8, 9)
Dearest Father, You are with us in Christ Jesus by the zealous efforts of the Holy Spirit. Thank You so much.
“This is the message, the revelation that we heard from Him and now reveal (hopefully to many): God is Light; in Him there is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1 v 5)
The Holy Spirit calls us to serve through the love of the Lord Jesus, the Light to obliterate all spiritual darkness, its destructive distress and despair. What hope we find in Jesus’ love, sins’ antidote.
This Christmas season may we see a world renewed by the hope, peace and joy offered us as we learn to focus on Jesus and the Spirit’s power of holy love. May we be inspired to seek with all our heart and soul, an earnest spirit, for then we will find.
We must live with a faith filled hope, undaunted by difficulties and challenges as we seek to accomplish the fulfilment of the Lord Jesus’ kingdom on earth.
We are told “As we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith!” (Galatians 6 v 10) so we need the Holy Spirit to motivate and direct us efficiently.
Under the power of the Holy Spirit’s love, may we be led to a firm faith where lost hopes are restored, for we find a true love, a life of hope, for faith has its rich rewards.
Guard us, Holy Spirit, that we be always holy, live a life in the truth of Jesus’ love and the peace, hope and joy this gifts us. Please fill us with Your wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, purity and correct reverence.
May the Holy Spirit make our faith ardent, enthusiastic, life giving to all we deal with, hope establishing, for this is the lasting effect of Jesus, the Christ born to us.
Faith put simply, is us living in Christ Jesus, our prayer life ever being enriched, and faith deepening daily and seen in the way this is implemented, which is of course, the way of love the Lord Jesus introduces us to.
May the Spirit of wisdom show us what to do and what not to do, as we move forwards in faith through Jesus. We need You as Teacher, Adviser and Counsellor. Please grant us wisdom to help us discern.
May it be that we “Learn wisdom and do not fall into error; for those who in holiness observe holy things will be judged holy, and accepting instruction from them will find their defence in them.” (Wisdom 6 v 9, 10 TNJB)
For this we must need to stop, be still, pray, and read the sacred Scriptures. “Search in Yahweh’s book and read.” (Isaiah 34 v 16 TNJB) Thank You for gifting a love of prayerfully studying the sacred word.
You must have animated the many authors over the long years of time. Is that why it is said “Set your heart therefore on what I have to say, listen with a will, and you will be instructed.” (Wisdom 6 v 11 TNJB)
“Tell us what we ought to do and command us to do it” (Cardinal Mercier, the singular invocation made plural) “I promise to be submissive in everything that Thou shall ask of me and to accept all that Thou permittest to happen to me, only show me what is Thy will.” (Concluded)
We have just entered a New Year. Oh how I hope to do better in being reverently obedient than previously, honouring the Lord Jesus more fully so as to please our Father more often.
Please unite my efforts to the sacred heart of the Lord Jesus. Present me as His good work in progress so my Saviour’s infinite merits cover my own feeble efforts towards holiness.
When I go astray please tell me. When I fall into the regular pattern of faults and failings, please invade my conscience immediately, enabling me to send an arrow prayer of repentance before I forget the mistake.
We are told that whatever we do, we are to do it for God’s glory. None of us can accomplish this without You, Holy Spirit, Lord, prompting our attention towards the wisdom and truth we find in the Lord Jesus’ teaching and example.
Thank You for being our faith’s Motivator. I am so grateful that You responded to my prayer to find a meaningful, joyful faith, by introducing me to our Saviour as the living Word of God.
What an amazing and most wondrous surprise this was! I have a personal Saviour, a best Friend, a Companion on life’s journey home to heaven and no longer do I feel alone.
I am incredibly blessed to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus. You have made His words invaluable to me in so very, many ways, especially as to know the Lord Jesus is to know our Father.
You convince me You are a Trinity, one love in perfect harmony in three individual, distinct Persons. The Father is our Protector and Provider, the Lord Jesus our Redeemer and Saviour, and You, Holy Spirit, Lord, are our Purifier and Sanctifier.
“Holy Spirit, soul of my soul, I adore Thee.” (Cardinal Mercier) Please ever “Guide, strengthen and console me,” (Cont) especially now at this important time of a new beginning.
“No need to remember past events, no need to think about what was done before. Look, I am doing something new, now it emerges; can you not see it?” (Isaiah 43 v 18, 19 TNJB)
We will, if we turn to You for helpful, supportive guidance, Holy Spirit, Lord. “Yes, I am making a road in the desert and rivers in wastelands.” (Cont) We need this amidst the ravaging Corona 19 Pandemic, particularly.
We need You please, to direct many more people to pray to ask for the direct help and intervention of the Trinity, for You always act in loving mercy. We need this reassurance.
“May God show kindness and bless us, and make His face shine upon us. Then the earth will acknowledge Your ways and all nations Your power to save.” (Psalm 67 v 1, 2 TNJB)
“Let the nations praise You, God, let all the nations praise You” (v 3) in thanksgiving for sending divine healing to us, rescuing us from the destructive pandemic causing thousands to die prematurely.
Remind us that the Lord God, the Almighty does not judge us harshly and condemn us for our wrong motives, wrong decisions, wrong actions, wrong manner of speaking. For He is merciful and sends the Lord Jesus as Saviour.
By love, with mercy, our Father does “Judge the peoples with fairness” (v 4) and we live in hope of a brighter future, called back to a holy way of life. Is this Pandemic a wake up call? It would seem so.
“Let the nations praise You God, let all the nations praise You...May God continue to bless us, and be revered by the whole wide world.” (v 5, 7) Come, fill us, Spirit of prayerful praise. Amen.
