“ ‘I will go home to my father and say ‘Father I have sinned against both heaven and you and I am no longer worthy to be called your son (daughter).” (Luke 15 v 18 NLT)
Begin to acknowledge your sin.
Admit this to yourself openly.
Then seek an answer prayerfully.
For to fall short of God’s glory,
Is a very serious problem.
Led by temptation we succumb.
Sinking into evil is disastrous.
It separates us from God,
From His wisdom and truth
As made known to us by the Lord Jesus.
This is most serious, we are fallen. Pray!
“The Lord says, ‘I will rescue those who love Me. I will protect those who trust in My name. When they call on Me I will answer’.” (Psalm 91 v 14, 15 NLT)
We need to seek grace.
The grace of forgiveness,
As gifted us in Christ Jesus,
By His †of reconciliation.
Let the Light of Christ Jesus
Shine brightly over us
To illuminate the need of forgiveness.
We must not be blind,
But have to acknowledge faults, failings,
Making a frank admission to this.
Pray repentantly, seeking healing.
“ ‘Even more blessed are those who hear the word of God and put it into practice’.” (Luke 11 v 28)
Pray with remorse, of course,
A truly contrite heart.
Seek the peace of forgiveness .
Be courageous about this,
For God is ever merciful,
Close to the broken-hearted ,
All who are seeking spiritual renewal.
Heartfelt prayer is our tool.
Be humbly afraid,
Not of punishment,
This dealt with at the †of justice, helping and healing us.
“ ‘I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honour them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation’.” (Psalm 91 v 15, 16 NLT)
The Lord Jesus won forgiveness for us.
But be fearful in the future
Of thinking, doing, saying anything
Which will offend our Father.
His love is entirely holy,
This will heal us. Forgiveness will bless us.
Out of the goodness of His mercy,
A heart given over completely
To love in its entirety,
Our Father gifts us forgiveness,
All thanks ever be for Christ Jesus.
“For I recognise my rebellion; it haunts me day and night ...Purify m from my sins and I will be clean ... Oh, give me back my joy again...Remove the stain of my guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O God...and don’t take Your Holy Spirit from me...” (Psalm 51 v 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11)
“ ‘God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’ ...this sinner...returned home justified before God... Those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Luke 18 v 13, 14 NLT)
Praise be to God’s glory! “For the Lord God has consoled His people, is taking pity on His afflicted ones,” (Isaiah 49 v 13 TNJB) just as Lord, You promised You would in Your covenanted love and mercy.
“ ‘I shall not forget you. Look, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands...’” (Isaiah 49 v 16 TNJB) “... ‘Then you will know that I am the LORD, for they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me’.” (Isaiah 49 v 23 TNJB)
Every promise to us holds true through the perfect life of love the Lord Jesus led, offered up as a sacrifice for our sinfulness at the † on Calvary. We are a redeemed people, no longer belonging to satan!
Now is the time of our salvation and we must make real efforts to proclaim this by finding the resolve and the resource to overcome all our faults and failings, wrongdoing, any iniquity.
Thank You that the healing power of holy love helps us with this aim and Lenten objective. We must reach Easter prepared to live a newly redeemed and refreshed life, restored to every grace and favour in, by, through, from our Saviour Brother.
We call on Christ Jesus as Your living and abiding Word of wisdom and truth, made ours to name and claim as Saviour Redeemer, the One who wins forgiveness for us. In Him we find hope, peace and joy all through the power of holy love.
Holy love is redemptive, thank You. May we grow in determination to seek this wonderful power to conquer all that is evil, threatening to harm, hurt, disrupt and even destroy society and the Christian family.
We have to strive to reach perfection under Your guidance and protection as offered us by Christ Jesus, through the purifying and sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit guiding our daily intentions, words and actions with loving care. Thank You for this.
May the Holy Spirit make our efforts to love, honour and serve You in Christ Jesus’ name, Father God, by showing proper love and respect to all others, successful and beneficial in general. Let holy love be the foundation of our Christian Service.
Then when we have gone wrong, let us say so and deal with the matter prayerfully repentant, expressing the sorrow from a contrite heart and enlightened mind. May the Spirit show us where we go wrong, why and how.
Holy Spirit, Sanctifier, please grant us the gift of fear, which will make us so alarmed at the prospect of disrespecting, dishonouring, disgusting our Father, we will endeavour firmly to shun all sin.
We need too, to develop a God given sense of piety, its significance to daily life and overcoming of our worldly ways of thinking, desiring and acting. May we love and respect the Divine Persons, showing this through acting in this way to all others.
Is not a part of the problem where we go wrong, is us forgetting or overlooking the fact that everybody is special, because all are made in the likeness and image You imprinted upon us of Yourself, heavenly Father?
I am sorry for our failures in this way, for my failures in this way. I ask that our knowledge of truth be experienced by Your gifting, Holy Spirit, Lord. Then we will judge the eternal and the temporal more fully.
Let us see forgiveness for what it is, an incredibly generous gift of grace, which cost the Trinity dearly and therefore has to be of great importance. We need fortitude if we are to bear hardships for love of You, Lord.
The Lord Jesus was able to combat satan for 40 days when trialled in the desert, doing so by living on God’s promises, as made known in the sacred Scriptures. May it be similar for us. We must combat satan successfully by living within the truth of who we are, a fallen people yes, but not helpless. We have a Saviour who rescues us through forgiveness.
Please may we be granted the gift of understanding, enabling us to penetrate more deeply into all that You have deigned to reveal to us, Holy Spirit, Lord. Thank You for Your faithfulness towards us.
You make us wise as and when we pray asking for godly help, guidance and safekeeping. May such wisdom enable us to delight in all that is right, worthy, noble, good, holy, being in line with Your nature and its will, Father God.
We are asking to live in the perfect unity of holy love even whilst here on earth, knowing this will be our heavenly reward if we accomplish this high ideal.
Please never let us give up the struggle to live a decent, honourable, God fearing life, shown by sharing the ever loving and most merciful forgiveness, which we have been profoundly blessed to receive.
Pease keep us praying to this end, placing all our need of guidance and assistance openly, confidently before our Father, because we have become partakers of Christ Jesus, as long as we hold our confidence steadfast to the end.
We will, with You alongside us, Holy Spirit, Lord, the Lord Jesus with us as holy love’s constant presence and our Father in Him in us, to ever encourage and support us. For then we are in receipt of true love and compassion, a healing grace, an incredible favour, life saving in fact.
Let us ever reverence and adore You as a Trinity of supreme love and extraordinary mercy, ever with us by choice, ever ready to forgive all our faults and failures because of the redemption won for us.
Although we struggle daily with our human weaknesses, we pray and work to become more than conquerors by focusing on the Lord Jesus, the Word of Life, desiring to adhere to Him.
Holy Spirit of faith, when we hear the Master call, empower please our reaction. Empower us to reach out where there is a need to be met, doing so in the loving forgiveness we ourselves benefit by.
Let us find within us, a love that transforms the face of the earth, enabling all peoples to enjoy living within God’s kingdom on earth as shaped by the Lord Jesus. This is to be a place of communal joy and reverence.
Thank You dearest Father, that the season of Lent well lived brings us closer to heaven upon earth, the place where forgiveness flourishes. We need courage for this and total trust in Your mercy. In the company of our Saviour Brother, compassionate joy enriches life immeasurably.
Thank You for the almighty power of love, unifying the Holy Trinity and reaching down to us. “I will exalt You, LORD, for You rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me. O LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You restored my health. You brought me up from the grave, O LORD, You kept me from falling into the pit of death.” (Psalm 30 v 1, 2, 3 NLT) “Oh, how my soul praises You, LORD. How my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.” (based on Luke 1 v 46 NLT)
It must be that all believers in Christ Jesus join in Mary’s ‘Magnificat’ , her song of awed praise. “ ‘For the Mighty One is holy and He has done great things for me” (v 49) being a Trinity of love and mercy shown from one generation to another.
But without the Lord Jesus as Saviour Redeemer, accepting a †on our behalf, we would know none of this. “Have compassion on me, LORD, for I am weak,” (Psalm 6 v 2) but I claim to be a blood bought child, saved.
Joyfully, I will proclaim Your forgiveness. “The sacrifice You desire is a broken spirit - You will not reject a broken and repentant heart.” (Psalm 51 v 17 NLT) Thank You for such mercy, Father of love. Please keep the firm hand of Your Spirit upon me. Amen.
