“I have looked for You...to see Your power and Your glory.” (Psalm 63 v 2)
The Spirit of Christmas
Is as active as the Spirit of Pentecost,
Life giving, building, shaping;
Enduring, uplifting, changing;
Causing singing, echoing, rejoicing;
Allowing celebrating, our spirits’ soaring, radiating joy;
Love redeeming, replenishing, renewing;
Creating, re-creating, replaying;
Surfacing, swishing, surging faith;
Satisfying questions, sustaining belief, scooping up doubts.
“Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving.” (Psalm 147 v 7)
The Holy Spirit is active with all believers:
Strengthening, stretching, energising,
Charming, enlisting, arousing;
Benefitting, blessings bestowing;
Consecrating hope, peace and joy
In a birth as an angel promised,
The Christ Child, God’s Son,
The remarkable One born to Mary.
Come to enrich our life incredibly.
For this is the wish of our Father.
It is a Trinity of true love working
Who appear to us at Christmas.
“Because Your loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You.” (Psalm 63 v 3)
“Thus I will bless You while I live.” (Psalm 63 v 4)
That being eternally, all thanks to the process of salvation made very evident to us from that very first Christmas.
Dearest Father, I rejoice to receive Mary’s new born Baby as Your promise to save us from sin’s separating, destructive power.
I know the joy of Jesus’ friendship is the strength of all believers, because the Holy Spirit dwells with us. Thank You for this effective, truth building, life enriching impact.
No longer should satan lay claim to us, not when we possess a Saviour. “ ‘I am the light of the world. (S)he who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life’.” (John 8 v 12)
Jesus’ self-disclosing declaration gifts us hope, thank You. Just as the angel told Mary to “ ‘Not be afraid’,” (Luke 1 v 30) we should no longer be fearful.
But what a difference in our situations. Mary had “Found favour” (Cont) with You, Father God, by leading a holy life. We are far from this, but You favour us by mercy’s grace.
What a blessing it is that the sacred Scriptures tell us “The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy.” (Psalm 147 v 11)
Our sense of reverence is all due to the efforts and effect of Your Holy Spirit showing us, convincing us that it is out of loving mercy You always act.
“The LORD lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked down to the ground.” (Psalm 147 v 6) Oh that this need not happen, that all would come to faith.
The mystery of Christmas is wondrous. Why do people not feel intrigued? Does it all seem too far fetched, too good to be true, angels appearing, a virgin birth, a holy promise fulfilled.
Come, Holy Spirit, Faith Giver, come to us in these final days of Advent. Impress upon us an enquiring mind which has to find life’s meaning and purpose.
Turn our attention to the biblical narrative carefully recording the events of the Nativity, for this is a historically verified event.
Stir up any lukewarm, half hearted interest. Make us listen to learn. If we will not do this for ourselves, then we need You to impact timely upon us.
Enable non believers eyes to open wide, their hearts too. For really it is in the heart the message of faith has to be carried, then faith bestows blessings.
Make many, many aware of how blessed life becomes because Mary had faith. Faith she would conceive miraculously “And bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.” (Luke 1 v 31)
This name alone tells us so much, for it is the same as saying ‘Immanuel’ meaning that God is with us. There is no point to Christmas, none at all, unless we realise who Jesus is.
May the world respond to Jesus as the Light of Life, the promised Saviour, “For with God nothing will be impossible,” (Luke 1 v 37) not if we have faith.
Let the world know Jesus “Will be great and will be called the Son of the Highest.” (v 30) So there is no doubt as to who Jesus is. “And the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.” (v 32) We must recognise His Kingship.
Holy Spirit, Lord, teach us to regard the Lord Jesus as the King of Glory. “He will reign...and of His kingdom there will be no end.” (v 33) So although we serve a King, He calls us ‘Friends’.
What love is this, bestowed upon us, that the “Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God,” (v 35) living amongst us by Your power, Holy Spirit, Lord.
You are the Spirit of Christmas and the Spirit of Pentecost. Please be the spiritual impact upon our everyday to deepen, broaden and strengthen our faith.
We should all be echoing Mary when she claims “He who is mighty has done great things for me and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.” (Luke 1 v 49, 50)
“The LORD is my strength and my song,” (Psalm 118 v14) Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and Pentecost notably, but my everyday hope, peace and joy, for “He has become my salvation.” (Cont)
Jesus is everything we need in life. He sends us You, Holy Spirit, Lord, to make our life Your good work in progress. For Jesus knows we are made truly happy only by becoming holy.
This possibility of holiness is the blessing of Christmas. “The LORD will command His loving kindness in the day time, and in the night His song shall be with me – a prayer to the God of my life.” (Psalm 42 v 8)
Thank You for coming to us as the Spirit of faith and prayer. This is invaluable. Oh how I long for all my family and friends to be influenced by You. May this Christmas provide an opening for faith.
“For unto us to a Child is born, unto us a Son is given...and the government will be upon His shoulder.” (Isaiah 9 v 6) We are desperate for this to happen as we suffer a worldwide Pandemic.
Is the world being shaken, held to account by the appalling suffering as a result of Covid 19? Yet we are told regarding the Lord Jesus, “Of the increase of His government and peace, there will be no end.” (v 7)
Clearly something is very wrong here. Not enough of us belong to the King of Glory. We need to repent of this
serious, maybe disastrous situation to remedy the catastrophe.
This is the time, now in Advent, the days preparatory to celebrating our Saviour’s arrival. “Create in us a clean heart O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within us.” (Psalm 51 v 10, the singular invocation changed to plural)
“Do not cast us away from Your presence,” (based on v 11) or else we will never know hope, experience the peace of receiving Your love and mercy, nor have the joy of Jesus’ friendship to share and give thanks for.
“And do not take Your Holy Spirit from us. (Cont) “Restore to us the joy of Your salvation” (v 12) a heartfelt thrill of excitement at the birth of Christ Jesus, the Light of the world.
“Uphold us by Your generous Spirit,” (Cont.) Your life enhancing, joy giving, hope building, peace loving Spirit. He is the very One who enables us to recognise Your wondrous works of eternal faithfulness, offered us by Jesus.
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!” (Psalm 118 v 29) Come, all believers, let us rejoice together to drown out the discordant voices of unbelief.
It is our Father who arms us with a strength of faith which is firm, unchanging, indestructible, making our way perfect, prayer by prayer, day by day. Countless then are the blessings bestowed.
The kingdom of Jesus is being established. We serve the forever Saviour, a living hope. We are richly, profoundly and eternally blessed by the Holy Spirit, defeating all that is evil.
“Praise the LORD...Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His excellent greatness ...Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.” (Psalm 150 v 1, 2, 6) It is nearly Christmas! Amen.
